The Top four midfielders to look out for in the 2014-15 EPL Season
Louis Van Gaal is set to usher a new era at Manchester United, while Chelsea looks to have accumulated a terrific squad. Liverpool go into the season without Luis Suarez while Wenger’s frowns looks to get straight. The question however remains can Manuel Pellegrini retain the title? With the long awaited Premier League season, starting in under a month’s time, we take a look at the top four midfielders to look out for in the 2014-15 campaign.
Arsenal’s pain will certainly be Chelsea’s gain so far what has turned out regarding the Cesc Fabregas saga. The Blues manager Jose Mourinho recently stated that Fabregas had no intention on rejoining former club Arsenal from Barcelona but in hindsight we all know what the truth was. It is believed that Arsenal had first refusal on the player but Gunners’ manager reportedly was unwilling to take his former captain back to the Emirates. The reason being debatable, how would you fit in Cesc thanks to the plethora of options that Wenger has in the middle of the park. This throws up the age old question: players for the tactics or tactics for the players. The only criticism reserved for Wenger would be that there is a saying, “You find a way how to accommodate World class players in your starting eleven.”
Chelsea though would be overjoyed by acquiring the services of the Spaniard and Mourinho might play the 2010 World Cup winner as a deep lying playmaker who will be joined by Nemanja Matic, the latter who is adept at screening the back four. Moreover Fabregas has can also be deployed as a more attacking midfielder donning the number ten role or even drafting in a false nine position if required. There is no doubt of Fabregas’ quality and his elegant poise on the ball but it would be interesting to see how the player will fare in his return to the Premier League.

Liverpool face a difficult campaign with star striker Luis Suarez leaving the club to harbor dreams at La Liga giants Barcelona. The Reds have spent a significant cash in the transfer market from their sizeable transfer kitty and manager Brendan Rodgers has vowed to carry on spending as they look to go a step closer to the Premier League title. However, it’s easier said than done with the Merseyside outfit having to take care of the Champions League apart from domestic competitions for which they need a large squad rather than having a wafer thin bench strength. Emre Can has been brought in from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen with Lucas Leiva almost certain to leave the club and join Napoli.
Can is expected to play the defensive midfield role to perfection, screening the back four and also break down opposition attacks to help Steven Gerrard play in a more creating and advanced role than what he did last season. Can needs to settle quickly and with Joe Allen not living up to expectations, the young German will be key to Liverpool’s defensive discipline this season.

This 26 year old had earlier attracted the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United but Porto’s official decision comes to let the player join Manchester City for £12m is an absolute bargain, if not daylight robbery in this inflated transfer market. The Brazilain defensive midfielder featured in 36 appearances for Porto last season and will definitely add to the already brilliant City midfield.
Reges’ his work ethic and brilliant dynamism on the ball in the middle of the park will give Yaya Toure to join attacks with much more vigour and without having to be concerned with tracking back defensively when the opposition tries to attack on the counter. The only question is how quick can the Brazilian settle in the Premier Legaue like his national team mate Fernandinho.

Arsenal’s marquee signing and with the way the London club are being linked to world class talents in this transfer window, who knows the Emirates faithful might be gifted with potential match winners on their own right. With the debt being finally cleared off, can Wenger sign finally lead Arsenal to their long lost glory of winning the Premier League. Alexis Sanchez no doubt remains a terrific signing for the Gunners. The Chilean had a terrific World Cup and personally had a superb last season for Barcelona too. The 25 year old can play on either wings, down the middle and also slot in as a winger striker which is surely going to bolster Arsenal’s goal scoring options.
