Top 5 Most Hated Players In EPL Including Manchester United And Ex-Arsenal Stars

Share

As players like Frank Lampard and Mesut Ozil are 2 players that’s brilliance and humility attracts more plaudits that hatred, though not all Premier League footballers are as likeable as the midfielders.

5. Rio Ferdinand

Drug bans, bad tackles and deluded fans have made Rio Ferdinand one of the most hated players in the Premier League. Whether it is for failing a drugs test or being one of the most overrated players in the world. United fans often brand him as one of the finest centre-backs in the world, but while the rest of the footballing world laughs at their delusion, the hatred they have for the fans is quite often aimed at the former England defender.

4. Ashley Cole

Cole

Former Arsenal player Ashley Cole was once considered the best left-back in the world. When he moved to Chelsea in 2006, he doubled his money, while his reputation took a nosedive. Considered one of the game’s greatest whingers, public opinion of Cole hit an all-time low after it emerged that he’d cheated on his wife Cheryl Cole several times. The now infamous excerpt from Ashley Cole’s autobiography in which he admits he “almost crashed [his] car” after being told Arsenal would only be paying him £55,000 per week. The revelation earned him the tag “Cashley” Cole.

3. Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez

There is no denying his immense talent, often effortless brilliance has seen him rise to become the best player the Premier League has to offer. Although he is loved by the majority of Liverpool fans, contract stand-offs and declaring that he wanted to leave to Arsenal has lead some fans of the Kop to dislike the Uruguayan, while his infamous bite on Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic sealed his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most hated players. Often tagged as a diver and not always playing fairly, he has also become a figure of controversy, though his antics on the pitch are often exaggerated.

2. Patrice Evra

Patrice Evra

Has many of the same problems as Rio Ferdinand, as he is overrated and overhyped by the press and also the Manchester United fans. The former France international goes one further by also being arrogant and rating his abilities as higher than they actually are. Often dirty tackles and a selfish attitude saw him dropped by France after a disastrous world cup in 2010.

1. Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is hated for mostly footballing reasons, which makes a first on this list. He lazily struts around the pitch and rarely helps his teammates, though attempts to take all of the credit for goals he scores, that he may just tap in the net from 2 yards out. His lung busting run to the other side of the pitch just to celebrate a goal against former club Arsenal for Manchester City on front of the away fans was childish and infuriating, while in an interview afterwards he claimed that his reputation amongst fans proves he is one of the best. Arrogance and greed rubber stamp his name on this list.
