Top 5 Midfielders In Premier League Era Featuring Arsenal, Manchester United And Liverpool Stars

Share

Since the very inception of the Premier League way back in 1992, we have been lucky enough to witness some of the mist exhilarating and jaw dropping moments of which legends are made. As strikers hit the back of the net to send fans in ecstasy, defenders, with their last ditch tackles prevent certain goals as goalkeepers throw themselves which form picturesque wallpapers in our bedrooms. However, the midfielders are perhaps never much appreciated as they should be, hence we here at Soccersouls bring you a list today of the top 5 central midfielders in the premier league era. These guys do all the dirty work, getting the ball back fir their team, barging forward, they provide a vital assist and also score important goals for their team. They have been a vital cog in the wheel for their clubs and this list though on central midfielders, is a tribute to their enormous hard work, sheer passion and dedication to the game.

5. Patrick Vieira

Part of the invincibles of Wenger’s unconquerable team, it was this Frenchman who led the Gunners from the front. Vieira, known for his trademark hard tackling and leadership abilities helped Arsenal to the pinnacles of glory in the Premier League and cup competitions alike. After taking over from the retiring Tony Adams as the captain he soon made a name for himself in England winning the league title in 2003/04 season for the Gunners. Who would ever forget the celebrations he turned on in style after converting the winning penalty in the FA cup final over arch rivals Manchester United? An Arsenal legend and a player who will be forever remembered around Emirates.

4. Roy Keane:

Mr Manchester United personified. This hard tackling Red Devil was the backbone behind  Alex Ferguson’s all conquering team and his influential role in central midfield scoring goals and saving them time and again forms stories of legends. He led his team to the remarkable treble winning season in 1999 wining accolades from all over the world. Its a shame that Keane’s infamous tunnel fights with Viera remains the most talked about rivalry in English football. Picking up suspensions more than anyone and breaking tackles were his forte but we contemplate whether his favorite color is red. Manchester United legend though, no doubt.

3. Frank Lampard:

Lampard

Frank Lampard’s flamboyant playing style, flair and personality is perhaps second to bone in the Footballing fraternity. The highest goal scorer for Chelsea, his stupendous and immaculate displays helped the Blues win the Premier League title and numerous domestic cups and also the Champions league in 2012. He made the team of the season three successive times from 2004 to 2006 showing his class and flair. Sadly, he might hang up his boots without a World Cup medal in his showcase.

2. Steven Gerrard:

Gerrard

“I was born here and I will die here” these words have been immortalised at Anfield as Steven Gerrard, the home bred son has taken Liverpool to perhaps achieving everything that was up for grabs. Undoubtedly, one of the finest players in this generation, he is one of those rare players who stays loyal to the club even during the troubled times. He established himself in the heart of the English side and his club Liverpool since his debut, winning the champions league in 2005 against AC Milan in the stunning back win shows his leadership qualities, abilities and determination, passion for the game and the willingness to succeed. It will be a shame that this Liverpool legend will perhaps retire without a Premier League medal but could Liverpool go all the way this season?

1. Paul Scholes:

Scholes

Described as untouchable by the united faithful, Paul Scholes never failed to live up to the expectation. Most managers would love him in his team as he has shown his grit and determination on the pitch like any legend of the beautiful game. The treble winning season, innumerous domestic championships and his trophy cabinet is a testimony that is being missed at Old Trafford. A true gem of a player and one of the Manchester United greats who had that unbelievable ability if picking a pass from anywhere on the pitch. Number one he is.
