Top 5 Loan Signings Of The Season – Chelsea Man Wins It Hands Down, Liverpool And Barcelona Loanees Featured Too

Share

The Premier League has had an eventful end with Manchester City walking away with the most prestigious title in English football.
As we speak of the teams that were riddled with money to prize some of the biggest names in world football, there were some others who were recipients of temporary transfers that turned out to be fruitful for them.

We shall take a look at the top 5 loan signings of the 2013/14 Premier League Season.

5. Jake Livermore

A look at the Premier League loan deals and there are so many ones which have disappointed. However, Steve Bruce has come across as a clever manager with an acute deal that has ended up beneficial for him. Signed along with Tom Huddlestone (permanent), Livermore has started in 36 League games this season with a return of 3 goals and 4 assists.

Well, that’s a good return for him considering he mainly plays the anchor in the midfield along with Tom Huddlestone. His passing, pressing and defensive abilities make him a vital cog in the Hull City line-up. Although he is on a loan deal, Steve Bruce should be more than eager to sign him up on a permanent transfer.

4. Gareth Barry

Everton’s prosperous season has been a quite compelling one with Everton finishing above teams like Manchester United. While their attack has been excellent, their solid midfield has been the heartbeat of the team. In that, playing a vital role is Gareth Barry.
Brought from Manchester City on a season-long loan, Barry has been excellent in shielding the defense and providing an assured presence in midfield. Although his contributions may have downsized by the numbers, his work rate and experience add a world of stability to a fast-paced team.

With youngsters like Barkley coming up, Barry would have been a guiding presence for them. Seeing as he has no place in Manchester City in the future, Everton could do well to secure Barry on a permanent transfer.

3. Gerard Deulofeu

Once again, I have to choose a player from Everton. When one debuts for Barcelona after graduating from La Masia, then he is a special talent. Gerard Deulofeu’s life trajectory could just be the wish of every single person materializing.
Having grown up in Catalonia, he debuted for Barcelona in 2011/12 season and has grown big in stature since then. Roberto Martinez used his Spanish scouting set-up to sign him on a loan for one year.

Having made 25 appearances this year with 3 goals and 3 assists, Deulofeu has proved his mettle in the Premier League with excellent performances. Primarily starting on the right wing, he has become somewhat famous for his trademark runs which usually end up in a powerful shot from within the box, winning a corner more often than not.

While La Masia players are technically sound, Deulofeu comes with an additional bonus of pace and very good acceleration, somewhat conjuring a likelihood to Pedro Rodriguez.

2. Fabio Borini

He may have been underused and not performing properly at Anfield, but Gus Poyet certainly had other ideas for him. In what was one of the most miraculous escapes in the Premier League from relegation, Borini was crucial in the final two months.
Scoring goals on important occasions with a penchant to set up as well. Although he has totaled just 7 goals and 2 assists, he has been a vital member of the team in these last two months. Gus Poyet has used Borini in a variety of positions across the frontline and he has proved to be a very good signing in these last few months.

1. Romelu Lukaku

Now, that’s the third player from Everton and that’s a testament to how clever Martinez is. The two most important players of the season, and he brought both of them on a season long loan for no cost, Lukaku and Barry.

Romelu Lukaku has scored 15 goals this season, more than any Chelsea strikerr. Jose Mourinho missed out on a person who could have made a difference when he chose to allow Lukaku to leave.

Lukaku has been the main striker under Roberto Martinez and his all-round game has helped him become a potent player up front. The use of his physical strengths to the best has made him one of the tougher players to mark.
While his return to Chelsea might affect Everton deeply, they should be happy they got him to play for one full season.
