Top 5 game-changing signings completed by Rangers in the last decade including this influential leader

Share

The last decade has been an absolutely fascinating one in Rangers history with their administration in 2012 before their slow climb back up to the top division. The Gers have still managed to win three Scottish League titles, one Scottish Cup and three Scottish League Cups in the past decade.

Here are the five best signings Rangers made in that period:

Lee Wallace

Wallace signed for Rangers from Hearts in 2011 and he has been with the Light Blues ever since. He has remained at Ibrox through thick and thin and didn’t leave the club when they had to start life in the third tier. He has been the captain of the club since 2015 and leads by example. He has almost become synonymous with Rangers.

Martyn Waghorn

Rangers signed Waghorn in 2015 when they were in the Scottish Championship, and he turned out to be a game changer for the Gers. He came from Wigan and scored 24 goals in his first season at Ibrox to take Rangers back to the Scottish Premiership.

He then went on to score 16 goals in his second campaign in Scotland as Rangers finished 3rd in the league. Waghorn left Rangers for Ipswich Town last summer.

Jon Daly

Daly is now a coach at Hearts, but he was an incredibly important signing for Rangers in 2013. He scored 25 goals in Scottish League One for the Gers to earn them promotion to the Scottish Championship.

It was a very strange signing from his perspective at that time as he left Scottish Premiership Dundee United to join Rangers. But it all worked out well in the end and he was the hero for the Gers that season.

Scott Arfield

Arfield feels like a game-changer because he is the first signing under new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. The midfielder left Burnley, an established Premier League team, to come and join the revolution at Rangers.

Scott Arfield

It remains to be seen how he fares for Rangers, but signing him is definitely signals a statement of intent from the Scottish giants.

Steven Gerrard

This list would not be complete without a mention for Gerrard. The Liverpool legend took over the managerial reins at Ibrox this summer, and the move feels like a game changer. Gerrard will try to end Celtic’s domestic dominance and mount a serious title challenge next season.
