Top 5 Crucial Chelsea Fixtures That Could Make Or Break Their Season Including The West Brom Clash In November

Share

The new season would begin soon after the World Cup and with the Premier League fixtures already out, we can analyse which one of those would be important. It is not always the big matches that we need to consider and sometimes we obviously need to consider the contenders’ clashes. Here are 5 fixtures in the 14-15 season that can make or break Chelsea’s season.

Everton vs. Chelsea 30-08-2014

Everton are the first top quality team Chelsea face and they visit them at the Goodison Park, a place where Chelsea have had a rather ordinary record. Last year Chelsea played a poor game against Everton and that marked the beginning of a rocky start as Chelsea lost 1-0 to a spirited Everton side. A win against a good quality team like Everton, in the first month itself will give the West London club some good confidence in their stride.

Chelsea vs. West Bromwich Albion 22-11-2014

It would rather intrigue the readers of this article as to why this fixture is even being mentioned considering the pedigree of Chelsea in comparison to WBA. But as it goes, Chelsea have a poor record against The Baggies especially in the November as Chelsea go through a downward spiral in the first winter month. All weaknesses in the teams start emerging during November and Chelsea usually lose truckloads of points against unlikely teams. The coming season is expected to be very strong for the Blues, but beating WBA in November would be a good omen. Chelsea also face potential upset makers in QPR and Sunderland, while the Liverpool match adds spice to the month.

Chelsea vs. Manchester City 31-01-2015

The big match would be held at the end of the Winter Transfer Window and usually the end of January means that the league is entering its business stages. Last season, Chelsea faced Manchester City away on 3rd February, while this new season will see Blues host the match for their fellow rivals near the same period. This would be a very important fixture as a win here could see significant developments in the league table like it did last season. This match will mark the beginning of a ruthless winning mentality in the Blues if they do manage to bag all three points at home.

Chelsea vs. Manchester United 18-04-2015

This juicy fixture is right up in the business end of the league and with Man Utd hiring Louis van Gaal, we can expect them to be having a strong season by now. As we know Man Utd are believed to be getting back on track and would start contending for the title once again. This fixture would be expectedly clashing between the Champions League matches and would require Chelsea to put their whole heart and soul to bag three points against a side that has no extra pressure of European football. Manchester United don’t have a great recent against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but going by their quality and the presence of van Gaal, one would not want to underestimate them at all.

Arsenal vs. Chelsea 25-04-2015

Before Chelsea host Liverpool, they would be playing their final toughest away game in the league. By now we would know that this fixture is a very important one in deciding which teams will go ahead for the title race. Last year the Gunners dropped crucial points as they faced a resilient Chelsea at home and then lost 6-0 at Stamford Bridge in their most important match of last season.

This season would have Arsenal investing a decent amount of money to restore their lost squad balance and attempt for the title. With the likes of Arsene Wenger, nothing can be taken lightly, as the French maestro would do everything to take revenge of the business end loss that he faced on his 1000th match as Arsenal manager. Chelsea have a strong record at Emirates recently as they have been successful under Mourinho as well as previously under Benitez. This game again could possibly fall between Champions League matches and would be very important for Chelsea to win so that they host Liverpool with confidence and a better points cushion.
