Purchases, purchases and more purchases, the Premier League is known for its extravagant purchases in the transfer window. Larger TV deals, bigger sponsorship deals and a whole lot of ticket revenue is certainly helping the Premier League buy the best players in the world, but some of the clubs take a more austere route to getting the best.

There really isn’t that great a deal in buying an Aguero or a Silva and forking out millions of pounds at them but using your scouting system and getting that one player who doesn’t cost much but gets you the performances is another great feeling. With 16 games of the Premier League done, here is a list of the best transfer deals done by the clubs in the Premier League, all of whom have come at a price lower than £5 million.

5. Andre Ayew

The star of the season for Swansea, until they went on a bit of a slump, Andre Ayew was in fine goal-scoring form for the Swans as he helped them to great results over Chelsea and Manchester United. The former Marseille player was always one of the best players in Ligue 1 and it seems a bit of a surprise that no one took a punt on him.

The Ghanaian was available on a free and Swansea snapped him up, he started his career in the Premier League with three goals in his first four games and won the Player of the Month award. The 25-year-old has done extremely well for the team that has struggled and searches for a new manager after the departure of Garry Monk.

Ayew has already scored six times in just 16 games this season and will be looking to get a few more in. He has tremendous skill and dribbling ability, plus he can score and can pass the ball around with ease. Certainly one of the bargains of the season thus far.

4. Artur Boruc

The former Southampton goalkeeper initially was sent out on loan to Bournemouth at the start of the 2014 season and well the Polish goalkeeper hasn’t looked back since. He might have been playing in a league below the Premier League but the team is now playing in the big time and Boruc has been putting in some great performances for the Cherries.

Eddie Howe certainly has gotten a great team built and now the rewards are being enjoyed by the club with back-to-back victories over Manchester United and Chelsea. Boruc has been at the heart of it all by making some crucial saves throughout the games and the greatest part of all this is that he was signed by the now Premier League club on a free, the day he was released by Southampton.

3. Gerard Deulofeu

Everton might be enjoying the form of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley but there is another player who has been dropping the dime, literally on Lukaku’s head and that is the Spaniard Gerard Deulofeu.

The former Barcelona player returned to the Merseyside club after spending a year on loan and seems to have picked up where he left off. The 21-year-old has scored one goal in the league this season but has provided seven assists so far.

Not bad for a player who has come under £5 million and could well be one of the stars of the future for the club.

2. James Milner

James Milner has been James Milner at new club Liverpool, he hasn’t done anything to push himself for the Ballon d’Or but he certainly has provided Liverpool with some steel in midfield, especially when the likes of Henderson and Lucas have been out injured.

The former Manchester City player was brought in by ex-manager Brendan Rodgers but has played the most under Jurgen Klopp and in a variety of positions. Milner though has given it his all and seems to be putting in the shifts regularly, which will be great news for Liverpool fans since he came here on a free transfer.

He might not always play in the centre of midfield as he would have liked but he already has three goals to his name this season and will hope for more goals under the new regime of Jurgen Klopp.

1. Manuel Lanzini

This might constitute as cheating but Manuel Lanzini isn’t technically owned by West Ham, he is on loan at the club but he has been one of their shining stars under Slaven Bilic. Not many would have known for the Argentine and the fact that he was playing for UAE club Al Jazira.

The 22-year-old already has five goals to his name and is known for his shooting ability and quick feet. West Ham certainly are the winners in the transfer window with Dimitri Payet also at the club but they would want to complete the signing of Lanzini on a permanent basis and quickly.
