Top 3: Premier League ‘Transfer Steals’ This Season

This is the time of the football calendar when all other news takes the backstage as the focal point during these two months becomes the players changing their clubs and an endless saga of speculations. Now, while we analyse these transfers we can categorize them under three headings. Some of these transfers are definitely questionable for which the fans the media possesses a lot of scepticism. Some of them are definitely decent transfers filling the supporters with utter joy and transfers which are poised to improve the team. There are still transfers which are considered as a real coup, transfers where everything falls into places. We are looking at a few such transfer stories that have happened so far in the Premier League which have elated the moods of the club officials.

Maarten Stekelenburg

Last season Fulham stunned everyone with the deal of Berbatov from Manchester United with a meagre transfer fee and this season they have again done so with the transfer of Maarten Stekelenburg. The Dutch goalkeeper will move to the Premier League side from AS Roma where he joined in 2011. Fulham conducted their business with great efficiency and without much ado, exactly the kind of stuff you would want from a sensible club. The 2010 World Cup finalist was always a prolific player for Ajax throughout his career and it can be well understood from the fact that he has been provided with the responsibility to manage the sticks for his national side after the legendary Edwin Van Der Sar. The keeper, who was once poised to make a move to Manchester United, will certainly be a game changing factor for Fulham next season.

Paulinho

Certainly one of “The” transfers of the seasons, the Brazilian midfielder has moved from Corinthians to Tottenham Hotspurs. Paulinho is expected to provide the team with the rigidity in the centre of the field that they were lacking severely last season. This season he has already turned a few heads with his performance for his national side during the Confederations Cup which Brazil eventually won. What makes the deal special is the fact that Spurs have got their man for a fee under £17m, while Manchester City have grasped a very similar kind of player Fernandinho for €40m, with the former being three years younger at 25.

Jesus Navas

Manchester City have the ill reputation of overpaying for players and this season have been no different either with Fernandinho joining the club for a staggering amount. But City cannot be blamed of overpaying for this Spanish sensation who has made his move from Sevilla. At £14.9m, he is definitely one of the captures of the season. The combination of Silva and Navas would be an interesting thing to look forward to in the upcoming seasons and if the recent held Confed Cup is anything to go by, City have a gem of a player in their hands.

Simon Mignolet

Pepe Reina has been a great server of the club, but time had come for Liverpool to make a move. They did make that move and how? At a time when no other young talented players are in no mood to join the Merseyside club, Mignolet’s transfer will certainly lift the spirits of the manager and the Anfield faithful. One of the most promising keepers of the Premier League the previous season, many see him as the future of the club as far as goalkeeping is concerned. Liverpool have paid £9m for him, which is certainly a steal for such a prolific keeper.

Stevan Jovetic

The 23 year old will be strengthening the forward line of the blue half of Manchester and some of the fans at the Emirates would not be too happy about this. The former Fiorentina striker is considered to be an extremely talented player and the £22m that City has paid for him is certainly justified. Snubbing Juventus and Arsenal, this man has showed his intent by joining City and City would hope that he maintains the same kind of form that he did at the Seria A side.
