The Championship gets more exciting year by year. This season, a number of teams have emerged as early title contenders, with both Middlesbrough and Leeds United occupying the top spot.
Sheffield United and Derby County are hot on the leaders’ heels, with Brentford and Bristol City also impressing in the early stages. Leeds are playing an expansive style of football under new manager Marcelo Bielsa, while Tony Pulis has set up a well-drilled side to challenge for the title.
Championship newcomers Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion have also looked decent in the opening stages but have to do more in order to make a swift return to the Premier League.
Here we take a look at three of the most impressive new signings who have impressed for their clubs in the Championship so far.
Weimann has represented Aston Villa in the Premier League and possesses vast experience at the highest level. Bristol City signed the Austrian from Derby County this summer. The striker has already scored 5 goals and provided 1 assist in 6 appearances for the club. (Stats Courtesy – Whoscored)
Weimann seems to be realising his full potential at Bristol, with the forward now playing at the top of his game. His pace and trickery on the ball have caused all sorts of problems for the opposition defenders.
The 27-year-old has so far averaged a whopping 3.3 shots per game, keeping the goalkeeper on his toes all the time. He is excellent with his link-up play and is extremely clinical in the final third.
Swansea City’s new signing from Sunderland has hit the ground running at the Liberty Stadium. The Swedish international has looked energetic and electrifying going forward. He possesses blistering pace and ability on the ball.
He is capable of twisting and turning to get out of the tightest of situations. The youngster has emerged as one of the standout performers in the Championship this season. Though not the complete and final product, Asoro has shown immense quality and maturity in his displays.
Though yet to hit the high standards that he once displayed in his time at the Championship, the striker has still made a massive difference to the Baggies’ offensive setup. Gayle was previously the Championship top-scorer when he played for Newcastle United in the 2016/17 season.
He has already picked up 3 goals in just 4 appearances this season. Gayle is a devastating striker to come up against and thrives by making runs behind the defenders.
