Three Worst Signings Watford Have Completed In Recent Seasons

Over the years, we’ve seen many spectacular and strange signings in the transfer window. There have been several moves that have amazed and mystified fans and critics alike, and that has often led to either finding hidden talents or watching hyped players fail to do what they are supposed to do.

Watford have been quite active in the transfer window in recent times, and of course, they have signed some hits as well as some misses. With the January window coming up, here’s a look at some of the signings that Watford could have possibly done without.

Isaac Success

After showing such promise when given his chance in early October against Bournemouth and Middlesbrough, Success found opportunities limited. Although there is no doubting his talent, Success did not have the same impact that was expected from him. He looked bright in cameos and injected some pace and directness into Watford’s play when he came on but he never established himself.

Of late, controversies from his personal life have hampered his chances and the player could be on his way out of the club soon enough since he is not adding any sort of value.

Nathan Ellington

The player joined Watford in 2007 and it seemed like a bad idea from the very beginning. Ellington’s form quickly deteriorated and he later lost his place in the side to Darius Henderson and Marlon King. A four-month barren spell signalled the end of his time with Watford. Just two years after joining, he was sent out on loan, following which he ultimately left the club.

Although the player was promising when he first joined the club, Ellington never really made it big at Vicarage Road. At the time, the Hornets could have really used his services but he failed to deliver, and Watford ultimately had to replace him. However, they did spend money on him and considering how poor he was, the club should have saved that amount instead.

Mario Suarez

This is a more recent signing as Mario Suarez joined Watford only last year. After attracting a lot of clubs during his time at Atletico Madrid, Suarez looked like just the kind of strong, battling midfielder Watford were in need of.
However, things didn’t go as planned for Suarez, and a number of lazy and slow performances saw the Spaniard get the drop to the bench. After just 8 months with the London club, Suarez departed on a season-long loan deal to Valencia. Currently, he plays for Chinese club Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng.
