Three Signings Who Can Make Tottenham Reach Top Four – Are You Listening AVB?

Share

After spending almost their entire transfer kitty acquired from Gareth Bale’s departure to Spanish Giants Real Madrid,  Tottenham Hotspur were expected to be genuine top 4 contenders if not title contenders. However, as of now, things haven’t fallen in place as Andre Villas Boas’ side have had a topsy turvy campaign so far, now placed sixth in the table as things haven’t yet gone on plan for the London outfit. While there have been claims that Andre Villas Boas hasn’t got his several summer signings gelling well as a team, others have been projecting that AVB’s time might just be over at White Hart Lane. Now, with the January Transfer Window imminent in about less than a month’s time, we here at Soccersouls decided to scout for Villas Boas on his possible option come this January.

Tottenham’s best player this campaign has been Christain Eriksen, who was acquired from Dutch Giants Ajax in the summer. However an ankle injury forced Eriksen to miss the last few crucial gameweeks, but the good news is that the Dane is back to full training. There is no doubt that Spurs have lacked the creativity in the middle of the park and the spark required to trigger that moment of inspiration. Roberto Soldado, too the prolific goalscorer from Valencia, seems to be living under the shadow of his former self. Erik Lamela hasn’t impressed much after his big money move from  Italian side Roma, thus it seems that AVB has got problems which he needs to address in the best of spirits and utmost care.

1. Dimitar Bervatov

Berbatov

If we come to the striking options, Tottenham are on the alert on the news that their former centre forward Dimitar Bervatov of Fulham wants out of the Craven Cottage. The Bulgarian’s agent has confirmed that he wants out of Fulham and is interested to join another Premier League club this January, according to the Metro. Following which, Fulham’s boss Meulensteen was quoted as saying:

‘I will never stand in the way of people’s ambitions,’ said Meulensteen. I had a really good chat with him recently. We spoke about him as a player and the most important thing for me is to focus on the next few games up to January.’

“He is an immense player, that’s for sure, Any manager in the world would like to have him in their team.’

Berbatov remains one of the best predators in the penalty box and would no doubt be a very valuable addition to the current Spurs side.

2. Javier Hernandez

Chicharito

Going by strikers, Manchester United’s Mexican Javier Hernandez remains another possible option for Spurs. Although Soldado was brought in to score goals, it is the 31-year old Englishman Jermain Defoe, who has been doing the job upfront. The Standard reports that Defoe will not be allowed to leave White Hart Lane until spurs find a replacement for him. With the world cup just looming around the corner, Defoe is looking to get some valuable gametime under his belt to make himself a candidate for England’s squad, and leaving Tottenham would be the best possible option for him. The same report from Standard also points that Villas Boas is likely to offload Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebyaor this January, and if they are to find a perfect replacement for exiting duo, it should be Hernandez.

Hernandez has been the 4th choice striker for United with Rooney, Van Persie and Englishman Welbeck getting the nod ahead of him despite his good goal scoring records. At Tottenham, the Mexican would have very little competition for the starting place and could revitalize Spurs’ target of finishing inside the top 4. The ‘Little Pea’ has that predatory instincts and always lurks in the right position to slot the ball home.

3. Fabio Coentrao

And lastly, if there is another position where Spurs need to invest is the left back slot. Danny Rose’s absence has meant that Belgian Jan Vertonghen has filled his place but has committed mistakes quite too often which are not expected at this level. Real Madrid’s out of favour Portuguese Fabio Coentrao remains the most feasible option for  Andre Villas Boas as of now. Fabio Coentrao may not be good in defending but he is one of the best attacking left backs in the world. He has good pace, ball skills & dribbling, and he can play make from wings too.

Now the only question is Are you listening AVB?
