Three Reasons Why Liverpool Shouldn’t Buy This Arsenal Star Even For Free

Share

If major tabloids are to be believed, Liverpool are seriously looking to bring Arsenal’s right back and French International at Anfield in the coming summer. As Gianluzi Di Marzio writes in Sky Italia, “The French defender has an expiring contract, he is pondering Arsenal’s renewal offer, but the Gunners aren’t the only EPL club pursuing him. In fact, Liverpool has made him a substantial offer. It will be up to Sagna to decide if he wants to remain in England or not. Should he decide to leave the Premier League, Inter is in the pole position, but Sagna has yet to respond to the Nerazzurri’s offer.”

Sagna

However we here at Soccersouls believe this deal would be a no brainer and hence provide three  reasons why Liverpool shouldn’t buy Bacary Sagna even for free.

1. Age Factor

I for one feel the Frenchman is well past his sell by date and the Arsenal right back is too slow sometimes which will make him unsuitable for Liverpool who rely on speedy counter attacking gameplay, looks out of position quite too often and his end product is not that good too.  He was a great player, but I still feel he would add no real value to the Liverpool squad and signing him for free would be a no brainer.

2. Liverpool have Johnson, Kelly and Flanagan

Glen Johnson

Is there really a need to sign Sagna? The Reds from Merseyside have the likes of Glen Johnson, Martin Kelly and John Flanagan in their ranks. Comparing them one on one, I feel Johnson should be the first choice both for Liverpool and England and remains an integral part in Brendan Rodgers’ burning desire for the Anfield outfit. Martin Kelly has had an injury ravaged season, warming the sidelines rather than playing on the pitch but the tall and lanky defender has impressed over the last two seasons, enough to keep faith in him and add to the much needed squad depth. John Flanagan’s rise too has been nothing short of meteoric. The youngster rise to fame was catapulted thanks to his sublime performances playing out of positions and showing his maturity on the pitch. A cool and calm head on young shoulders is very rare to see these days.

3. History suggests so

Now, this would be ambiguous to write, but I couldn’t help resisting myself penning it down. Kolo Toure’s free transfer to Liverpool from Manchester City has been a disaster, the former Arsenal man has rarely an inch left to give and is perhaps two yards off the pace whenever he takes the pitch. Liverpool’s free deals haven’t warranted good utility players and hence I feel Sagna’s addition too wouldn’t make any difference. So, Liverpool should forget about Sagna and concentrate on adding much needed midfielders to the squad.
