Arsenal face another crunch tie in the UEFA Champions League as they prepare to face Bayern Munich in the fourth game of the group stage. The Gunners pulled off a victory against the much-fancied side last time around and will require at least a draw to keep their hopes of making it to the next round of the tournament.
It was a brilliant showing by the Gunners in the reverse fixture at home where they beat the German champions, Munich, who are still unbeaten in the league suffered their first loss at the Emirates and will look to exact some revenge by denting Arsenal’s chances of qualifying for the knockout round. Bayern might start the game as slight favourites since they are playing at home, but there is hope for Arsenal, thanks to some great performances in the league. We look ahead to this big clash and list out three reasons as to why Arsenal could defeat Bayern.
Arsenal are in fine form
Since the 2-0 loss at the hands of Chelsea, Arsenal have ramped it up, at least in the league. They have been scoring goals for fun and even wiped off the disappointing losses in the Champions League with great victories over Manchester United and Everton. The Carling Cup exit might have been a shock result, a bigger issue being the losses of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but Arsenal showed, as in the weekend that they have capable replacements and with them buoyed by their position in the league table, who can bet against them doing well against Munich, who themselves were held to a 0-0 draw in their last Bundesliga game, the first time they failed to win a Bundesliga game this season.
History on their side
Arsenal have been knocked out by the German club twice in the last three years in the round of 16 but as seen with most performances in the UEFA Champions League, the damage was often done at the Emirates. In both games, Bayern came out with a victory against Arsenal while the Gunners avoided defeat in the away leg, winning 2-0 once and drawing 1-1 the other time. This just shows that Arsene can get the right result and with the team having won the first game against Bayern, they should be confident of getting a positive result from the game, unless they decide to go the Arsenal way and implode on the European stage, again.
Players are clicking at the right time
A while back people were complaining about Olivier Giroud not scoring the goals, well he has turned that bit around and now seems to be the hottest striker in the Premier League, behind Jamie Vardy. Similarly pitchforks were set out for Mesut Ozil since the days he joined Arsenal but he has shown this season that he is ready to take up a starring role for the Gunners. Petr Cech also is having a great season after a slow start to the season and with Hector Bellerin showing his pace, incredible at that, Arsenal have players who are hitting top gear at the right time. Bayern must be careful as they face an Arsenal side that could be a real thorn in their side.
