Three keys For Liverpool To Return From The Emirates With A Win: Could Arsenal Repeat Last Year’s Scoreline?

Liverpool Players celebrate heir goal

The game of the weekend sees Arsenal host Liverpool in what normally is one of the more attractive fixtures in the Premier League. Arsenal, who are one of the favourites for the league this season haven’t had the best of starts after having lost their opening game at home and then just about winning the game against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool though have been lucky to have a maximum of six points from their two games. The Reds won both games by a single goal and have not conceded this season. Last time around, they needed a controversial goal, which should have been chalked off for offside as they beat Bournemouth. Christian Benteke got off the mark for Liverpool with his first goal for the club and the Reds will be hopeful that the big Belgian has a goal or two in him when they take on the Gunners.

The last time these two clubs met at the Emirates, Liverpool were humbled 4-1. We look at what the Reds have to do if they want to win against Arsenal.

Play Emre Can in midfield

The German midfielder was one of the best players for Liverpool last season but he was deployed as a right-back more than a midfielder. With Nathaniel Clyne in the team, Can should get more opportunities in midfield and with a major doubt on Henderson starting the game, Emre Can should be the one who plays in midfield alongside James Milner. Can is a tough tackler and would provide a great foil for Liverpool as they look to return from the Emirates with three points.

Start with Firmino

One of their more expensive signings this season, Roberto Firmino was a star for Hoffenheim last season but he hasn’t been given enough time to show his worth to the Anfield faithful so far. Adam Lallana might have started the last two games but he hasn’t done anything noteworthy and giving Firmino a chance could be the ace that Rodgers deploys. Firmino has the ability to change a game and has a wide range of passing and movement which would help the team out. He would also link up really well with the rest of the Liverpool attackers and that would be something special to see.

Hit Arsenal on the counter

Arsenal are known to be the ones who love to hit on the counter, but Liverpool should take that page from the Gunner’s book. Liverpool seem to have more steel in their defence this season and should set out to frustrate Arsenal. They do have some really quick players in Ibe, Firmino and Coutinho who could do some damage on the counter. They also have a big target man in Benteke who would love some crosses dished out to him. Hopefully the Reds will be more practical and pragmatic rather than playing with a gun-ho attitude.
