According to the Sun, Everton have been linked with a shock January swoop for Liverpool striker Divock Origi. The youngster hasn’t been able to breach the Reds’ starting line-up due to his injuries and a lack of form. Hence, the Toffees can rescue his career by getting him in the winter transfer window.
Origi spent the previous season on loan at Bundesliga club Wolfsburg but failed to impress there, and couldn’t get a move away from Anfield in the summer either. He is now not being considered for first-team action by Jurgen Klopp, having been limited to U23 appearances for Liverpool this year.
The Reds slapped a £27m price tag on the striker during the summer transfer window and chances are less that they would decrease the price just six months down the line.
However, Everton must sign the striker if possible. Here’s why:
Prior to his injury struggles, Origi was a great asset to the Liverpool line-up, scoring goals regularly and being a massive threat to the defenders. Therefore, we can say that he is just going through a lean patch and change of club may do him a world of good.
Everton are struggling for goals. Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison are scoring for them, which is just papering the cracks. Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse are not contributing in the way they were expected to.
Hence, it makes sense from Marco Silva’s point of view to look for a new striker in January. Origi is a goalscorer who carries that extra threat in the box. If he joins the Toffees, he could be the difference-maker. The Belgian has Premier League experience as well, hence, adjusting to a new environment would not be an issue here.
He just needs some regular playing time to get back to full match fitness and then we can see him flourish for the Toffees. It’s true that Liverpool fans won’t like this move, but if the player wants to play on a consistent basis and get back to his best, he should leave Anfield as soon as possible.

And if Everton come calling, it would be an ideal place for him. Under the tutelage of Marco Silva, the Toffees are looking for renaissance towards the higher echelons of the table.
