Wolves Opinion: Why Wolves should go for Nestor Araujo in the summer?

Mexican Nestor Araujo was unfortunate to miss the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a knee injury. Were he fit, the 27-year-old defender could have played some part in the glitz and glamour tournament.

After a decorated career with Santos Laguna in his native, Nestor Araujo was signed by la Liga outfit Celta Vigo last summer. And he has not failed to impress in his debut La Liga season, managing three goals in 23 games so far.

Having shone brightly in Celta colours this season, Wolves should make a move for Nestor Araujo in the summer.

Wolves have been an exciting team to watch upon their return to the Premier League this season. The Black Country outfit spent big in the summer transfer window to try and build a squad capable of staying in the top flight for many years to come.

And the move has worked to perfection so far, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s team firmly challenging for a place in the Europa League. They are seventh on the table with 40 points having arguably been the best team out of the ‘Big Six’.

With a place in the Europa League very much a possibility, Nuno should bring in some more players to strengthen his squad. And one the priorities will be to bolster his options in ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

In Conor Coady, Ryan Bennett and Willy Boly, Wolves have very limited options in defence. Although Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker are capable of filling in when required, Nuno should target a specialist centre-half and Araujo would certainly fit the bill.

Standing at just below 6ft 2in, Araujo is a physically robust, technically gifted defender who’ll add the much-needed aggressiveness and command to the Wolves backline. The Mexican is comfortable in bringing the ball out from the back and initiating attacks with his passing range.

The 27-year-old’s fine technique, poise, composure in possession and ability to not fluster in pressure situations would make him such a solid fit under Nuno. Known for his high levels of concentration and smart sense of positioning, Araujo is rarely caught napping at the back.

Conclusion

Araujo has already entered his prime years and possesses all the attributes to thrive in the highly competitive Premier League. Hence, Nuno should go all out to sign the Mexico international in the summer.
