Leicester City Opinion: Josh Sargent is destined to be the next Vardy

Leicester City have had what has arguably been the most successful decade in their club’s long-running history. However, after their loss to Crystal Palace, the Foxes have sacked Claude Puel (h/t BBC).

With each and every player in the Foxes’ squad giving it their 100% and players like Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton in the form of their lives, Leicester did the impossible by trumping all the other 19 teams to lift the Premier League trophy.

Even with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and City all challenging the relative minnows to the title, a side inspired by Wes Morgan and spearheaded by the talismanic Jamie Vardy went on to achieve the unthinkable for the Foxes.

Without the English striker’s goals and contributions, that season would’ve been just another mid-table finish for Leicester fans to enjoy but they turned things around by the scruff of the neck and seemed hell-bent on seeing out the year in pole position.

Since then though, the mood had been toned down substantially at the King Power Stadium. The effects of winning a league are everlasting but their voices have subsided and along with this, so has the quality of football.

The main factor in this could be the fact their main man Jamie Vardy and second choice Shinji Okazaki are both now 32. While they do have young Kelechi Iheanacho as potential back-up, his performances this term certainly haven’t warranted a starting role.

This could be the perfect time for the Foxes to bring in a young striker who they can mould in Vardy’s image. With all of his attributes taken into consideration, there is one prodigy in the footballing world who could turn out to be Leicester’s saving grace.

Werder Bremen recently acquired the services of young United States international striker Josh Sargent from local club in St.Louis, Missouri. He was signed at the start of this season for an unknown fee. He was expected to join up with the reserve squad.

He has surpassed expectations and already been promoted to the first team thanks to his highly impressive performances. Since joining, he has played 9 times for the Bremen first team and scored 2 goals. He has scored 2 goals for USA during his 6 caps for the country as well.

At just 19, he had a massive future ahead of him and in the German reserve divisions, he has already notched up 7 goals and 2 assists in his 12 games for the club. His link-up play and passing are both excellent while is also a good finisher of the ball.

His runs in behind the defence have an uncanny resemblance to Vardy’s plays from Leicester’s title-winning season. Regardless of who takes charge of the reins next, his future will certainly be bright if the Foxes complete this deal.
