According to last year’s report from Calciomercato, Everton were interested in Sampdoria midfield ace Dennis Praet. But the Toffees didn’t make any concrete offer to Sampdoria as the Belgian stayed with the club.
Dennis Praet, 24, has enjoyed a good season with Sampdoria, although he missed the first three games with a knee injury. He has put some really impressive displays in the middle of the park, scoring a goal and supplying two assists in 20 league games so far in the 2018/19 campaign.
Such has been the level of his performances that AC Milan showed interest in January; although no deal materialised. Now that Dennis Praet has again enjoyed a fine season in Sampdoria colours, should Everton reignite their interest in the midfielder?
Absolutely, they should. Marco Silva arrived at Goodison Park with a big reputation and appeared capable of challenging for the top six and domestic silverware on offer. But things haven’t panned out as per the plan for Silva as Everton have struggled to consistently produce good results.
Given the recent form and the results, The Toffees find it difficult to get out of the rut, with Silva unnecessarily having chopped and changed the system a lot. This has led to the players losing their confidence as Everton look likely of slipping outside the top ten.
It’s clear yet another overhaul is required this summer and there are so many players who just simply aren’t good enough. By clearing the deadwood first, Silva should add fresh faces to his squad that are capable of thriving under the system he wants to employ at Goodison Park.
The Toffees need solid, reliable central midfielders that are capable of dictating the tempo of the game. Barring Andre Gomes, none of the central midfielders have been consistent and that itself tells how badly Silva needs a holding midfielder.
In that case, Dennis Praet would fit the bill perfectly at Everton. Strong on the ball, Praet has incredible technique which he uses to dictate the pace of the game. He is adept at finding pockets of space and opening up the opposition’s defence with one killer pass.

The Belgian is a confident dribbler and has the ability to pick a pass from anywhere on the pitch. Praet’s work-ethic is extra-ordinary but can occasionally commit clumsy fouls through his enthusiasm and intensity.
Praet is an intelligent, box-to-box midfielder that can play deeper, as a pivot or further forward as a no.10. Plus, at just 24, he has a long future ahead of him and can develop into a top midfielder under the watchful eyes of Silva.
The two-cap Belgium international has everything in his locker to thrive in the Premier League and hence, Everton should go all out to sign him in the summer.
