This £10m West Brom star should surely ignore £200,000-a-week offer and stay put in England

Why Dwight Gayle should ignore offers from Chinese Super League

According to reports in the Sun, Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle, who is currently out on loan at West Bromwich Albion, could be offered a huge £200,000-a-week deal to move to the Chinese Super League. The striker has been in decent form since getting loaned out to West Brom, scoring three goals in five appearances.

The former Crystal Palace striker, who joined Newcastle in the summer of 2016 for £10m, scored 29 goals in 71 appearances for the Magpies but only six of them came in the Premier League. He bagged a lot of them in the Championship, which raises the question as to whether the 27-year-old has found his level in the second-tier of English football.

That may be the case because many clubs rejected a chance to sign him this summer when Newcastle were ready to sell him. (Sun)

However, a move to the Chinese league won’t really be a bigger step for a player, who can destroy any defence on his day. The money is uniquely massive but everything shouldn’t be about the money.

Even though Gayle is revelling in the Championship and a little iffy in the Premier League, he is playing at a greater level to what would be offered in Asia (with all due respect to the Chinese League). The 27-year-old still has time to learn his trade better and maybe get a breakthrough on a regular basis in England’s top-flight.

Any player would get tempted due to the money involved, so it is up to one’s own perspective. If the striker intends to get better and raise his game in the upcoming seasons, he has to stay in England. Going to China will certainly increase his bank balance, however, there is less chance that he would return as a better player.

Gayle must stay and further grow as a footballer. He will get his opportunities at West Brom and maybe he can score more goals to get the Baggies straight back into the Premier League.

However, if his perspective changes towards earning more money, then the Chinese offer would really tempt him sooner than later. The prospect of earning such huge wages can test anyone’s resolve. Let’s see what Gayle does if and when the offer is made.
