The Premier League XI: Featuring 4 Chelsea And 2 Liverpool Stars, None From Arsenal

Share

With the Premier League drawing to a close in the coming few weeks, we look at the players who dazzled on the field with consistent displays. There have been quite a lot of players this year because of the unprecedented level of competition in this season’s Premier League. The team would be lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation which is the most used formation in the league.

Many players miss out on the first team of the Best Eleven on very fine arguable margins. Players who miss out are Laurent Koscielny, Vincent Kompany, Martin Skrtel, Per Mertesacker, Cesar Azpilicueta, Branislav Ivanovic, Sergio Aguero, Daniel Sturridge, Aaron Ramsey, Oscar, Jay Rodriguez, Tim Howard, Szczesny and Wayne Rooney. Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic has been one of the best performers since January, but since he hasn’t played the full season, he misses out on the Premier League First XI.

  1. GOALKEEPER: Petr Cech (Chelsea)

Petr Cech has been in fine fettle this season having kept the maximum number of clean sheets and helping Chelsea become one of the strongest defences in Europe while being uncontested leaders in defence in the Premier League. Having kept 16 clean sheets, Cech also has the merit of keeping a clean sheet at the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City have butchered the visiting teams. Chelsea have also kept clean sheets in some very big games courtesy to top saves from the Czech goalkeeper.

  1. RIGHT BACK: Seamus Coleman (Everton)

Seamus Coleman has been in devastating form this season playing as the marauding right-back under new manager Roberto Martinez. With adequate defensive support from holding midfielders Gareth Barry and James McCartney, Coleman has got the license to venture forward and contribute to the attack. With 6 premier league goals for the Irishman along with his team holding the second best defensive record in the league, Coleman is the automatic first choice.

  1. CENTRE BACK: Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

Gary Cahill has really stepped up this season teaming up with rejuvenated skipper John Terry. The England International has played the role of being John Terry’s “legs”. The ageing skipper needed a reliable centre back partner, unlike the attack minded David Luiz, to move about and do things that he could not. Cahill improved on his defensive work-rate and has added to the steely resilience that epitomizes Chelsea’s defence today.

  1. CENTRE BACK: John Terry (Chelsea)

It is Cahill’s centre-back partner John Terry. Terry has by far been the best leader on the pitch and has led his defense to the best defensive record in the league. The age factor has not helped the Chelsea skipper as he has lost almost all of his agility on the pitch and doesn’t have the legs to close down counter attackers. Despite that, Terry has used his immense tactical defending skills by marshalling his troops Cahill, Azpilicueta and Ivanovic into building a rock solid defense. He and Cahill have put their hearts out in order to defend, as the Chelsea first choice centre-back pairing holds the maximum number of blocks (39) in the Premier League.

  1. LEFT BACK: Leighton Baines (Everton)

A perfect example of a marauding full back, he has racked up 4 goals, 2 assists and has created 39 chances for his team. Leighton Baines is also among Everton’s key set piece takers. Baines has also had an impressive tackling rate, as he wins 63% of his attempted tackles and winning 61%of his duels, more than Ivanovic, Azpilicueta, Evra and Coleman.

He has been fouled 51 times, the maximum number of fouls suffered in comparison to his counter parts. He has also conceded the least number of fouls (20) than his competitors for this spot. He has a strong disciplinary record and tackling rate which makes him edge slightly ahead of newly-formed left back Cesar Azpilicueta who has by far the best defensive stats yet absolutely minimum attacking contributions. Baines has managed to help his team have the second best defensive record in the league.

  1. CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Yaya Toure (Manchester City)

The Ivorian International has arguably been among the best midfielders in the league this season. Toure has racked up an astonishing 18 goals from midfield this year and has been an immense leader on the pitch for Manchester City. Toure is extremely strong and tactically aware central midfielder who can adapt to the role of an attacking midfielder as well as a holding one. He has been excellent in possession as he is a great passer having a completion rate of 90% with 64%of those passes being forward passes.

  1. CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Steven Gerrard ( Liverpool)

The Liverpool captain is our second central midfielder. He has been a key penalty taker for Liverpool as he has scored 10 out of 11 penalties this season. He also has an impressive record of 10 assists this season as Liverpool ran riots in the middle part of the season. With 46 key passes and 56 chances created Stevie G is the perfect central midfield partner for Yaya Toure in this team.

Gerrard has been a key contributor in defense as well as he has an impressive 43 interceptions and a tackling success of 50%. Leading his team from the midfield, Gerrard has driven his Liverpool team to a very exciting and promising season this year.

  1. CENTRE ATTACKING MIDFIELD: David Silva (Manchester City)

David Silva has been amazing for Manchester City this season. Despite having an injury hit start to the season, the Spaniard has racked up 7 goals, 9 assists in the league along with an excellent pass completion rate of 88%. He leads the pack in terms of key passes (70) and Chances Created (79) in terms of average per match. Silva’s ability to maneuver through the congested midfield and produce a pinpoint pass to a teammate has been commendable this season as Manchester City’s gameplay have been the most attractive to watch when in action.

  1. RIGHT ATTACKING MIDFIELD: Adam Lallana (Southampton)

Adam Lallana has been the driving force for Southampton’s punching-above-their-weight season. Having racked up 9 goals and 5 assists along with 57 key passes and 62 chances created, Adam Lallana has been among the best attacking midfielders/wingers this season around. Having earned an international call-up for England, Lallana is on course to play in Brazil having notched up the best creative statistics for an England midfielder. Lallana has been brilliant as a leader as well. His ability to team up with forwards Ricky Lambert and jay Rodriguez has been top quality.

  1. LEFT ATTACKING MIDFIELD: Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Eden Hazard has been the driving force for the Blues campaign this season. Playing as a play-maker from the left side of the pitch, Hazard has had a lot of influence in the commendable performances of the Blues. He is the top scorer for Chelsea with 14 goals this season and has also notched up 7 assists while creating 87 chances and 80 key passes which are both highest for any attacking midfielder.

With Jose Mourinho emphasizing on direct attacking game play with more purposeful passing and superior work rate, Hazard has emerged as a manager’s favourite as he has shown immense quality in tracking back his full backs and not allowing the width to the opposition, in turn helping out Cesar Azpilicueta.

  1. CENTRE FORWARD: Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

There was absolutely no doubt about who was going to lead the attack for the Soccersouls Premier League XI! It is the most prolific League goal scorer in the whole of Europe- the Uruguay International, Luis Suarez. Despite serving a ban and missing the first 5 games of the season, Suarez has scored 29 goals in 29 games along with 12 assists and 78 chances created. He has been a fan’s delight with the flair and confidence on display as he has led the Reds attack to a very promising stage in the league, where Liverpool have a genuine chance of winning their first Barclay’s Premier League title.
