“The Lovren, klavan pairing worked out ok!” Liverpool Fans In Joy As Salah Fires Reds To 3-0 Win vs Southampton + Player Ratings

Mohamed Salah scored a brace as Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 win vs Southampton

Full Time: Liverpool 3-0 Southampton

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are starting to stitch a decent run of results in the Premier League after an inconsistent start as they registered their third consecutive 3-0 league victory, with this one coming against Southampton at Anfield earlier in the day. Summer signing Mohamed Salah took his tally to 15 goals for the season in all competitions, scoring 9 in the league to become the first player to do so in just 12 games for the Reds.

The Egyptian winger scored a scorcher to open the scoring and was set up by Coutinho for his second, to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage going into the break. Klopp’s men dominated the game with 61% of the possession and Coutinho scored the third goal late in the second half, which saw them run away with 3 points comfortably.

Here’s how the Liverpool players fared:

Liverpool Player Ratings

Simon Mignolet (7)

The Saints had 0 shots on target but Mignolet had to be alert to a few attacks from the visitors, which he saw off comfortably to keep yet another clean sheet.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (8)

The youngster was just superb all game with his energy and willingness to win the ball back quickly at both ends of the field. Sure belongs at the highest stage already.

Dejan Lovren (7)

In his first start after the nightmare at Wembley against Spurs, Lovren put in a solid performance against the likes of Long and Austin, helping his side to keep their unbeaten home run intact.

Ragnar Klavan (6)

Stuck to his task well and helped Liverpool see out the game, starting alongside Dejan Lovren for the first time in what was a new pairing at the back for the Reds.

Alberto Moreno (7)

Was ever-present in his side’s attack and seems to have matured and evolved with his defensive duties as well, as he rarely allowed the visitors any space down his flank.

Jordan Henderson (7)

Back into the side after missing the last few games, the Liverpool skipper was all over the Saints midfield, harassing most players and keeping his side on the front foot for the entire game.

Georginio Wijnaldum (7)

Hardly put a foot wrong as his twists and turns often allowed Liverpool to create some space in the pocket behind the 2-man Southampton midfield.

Philippe Coutinho (8)

The orchestrator of the show for the Reds, Coutinho picked up a goal and an assist and was a live-wire almost impossible to catch. Yet another productive outing for the Brazilian.

Mohamed Salah (9)

Unhappy after being taken off in the 70th minute, Salah was the man of the match for Liverpool as his two, well-taken goals, helped him go top of the goal-scoring charts for the season, at least temporarily.

Roberto Firmino (8)

Unlucky not to find the back of the net on a night where he was involved in almost every Liverpool move in the final third.

Sadio Mane (7)

Used his pace well to stretch Southampton but was not at his usual self as he failed to have enough impact inside the penalty area.

Substitutes:

Emre Can (7)

Came on to relieve Coutinho of his duties and created more than what the visitors did all game.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (7)

Seems to have completely settled into life at Anfield, where he was a constant threat in the final few minutes of the game against the Saints.

James Milner (6)

Came into the game to replace Firmino and helped see off a comfortable night.

Here is how the Reds reacted on social media:
