Arsenal are targeting Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi to bolster their midfield options under new manager Unai Emery. The 29-year-old has already worked with the current Gunners boss in Seville.
Arsenal are also looking to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria. With Jack Wilshere gone for free and Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation, Emery must procure quality players in the midfield to prepare the squad for performing better next season.
Signing N’Zonzi and Torreira will add steel, quality and ruggedness for Arsenal. In fact, recruiting these two players will most probably complete their business for this summer.
N’Zonzi has the propensity to single-handedly dominate the midfield with and without the ball. He is tall and physically well-built to shrug off challenges and supply some incisive passes. The 29-year-old’s stature allows him to be a threat in set-piece situations as well.
The Frenchman has a unique blend of craftiness, ruggedness and stamina which makes up for a deadly combination. Having already played in the Premier League with Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers before, N’Zonzi shouldn’t require a lot of time to acclimatize to the English conditions.
In Emery’s 4-3-3 system, he could be deployed as one of the central midfielders with the freedom to move forward. Provided Torreira also arrives, it will allow the Frenchman to focus solely on creating chances and simultaneously protecting the in-between areas of the pitch.
Arsenal have done a fantastic job so far. They have succeeded in getting most of their targets and the future does look bright under Emery.
However, completing a deal for N’Zonzi will improve their squad two-fold. The Frenchman will be aware of what Emery wants from him, thanks to their experience together in Sevilla.

The 29-year-old will also benefit from this move with regards to proving himself at the highest level. In his previous stint in the English top-flight, the Frenchman played for clubs that were in the bottom half of the table. Now, he has the chance to make the mighty Gunners better with his performances and concurrently enhance his reputation as well.
