The summer transfer window is wide open and the Championship clubs are busy strengthening their squads. Every team wants to compete for the title and seal promotion to the Premier League but with the relegation of Stoke City, West Brom and Swansea City from the Premier League last season, the Championship clubs need to be more proactive in the transfer market.
With that in mind, let us have a look at the Championship’s best transfer XI of the summer so far.
West Brom signed Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone for an initial £6.5m fee earlier this month.
The 25-year-old, who signed a four-year contract at the Hawthorns, was one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship last term. The signing of Johnstone is massive for West Brom as they fight for Premier League promotion at the first time of asking.
Aden Flint has joined Middlesbrough from Bristol City on a four-year deal for a fee reported to be about £7m.
The 6ft 6in defender helped the Robins reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup last season. Flint is now arguably one of the top-5 defenders in the Championship. He is great in the air, strong and also has leadership qualities needed to be a success at Boro under Tony Pulis.
Toni Leistner completed a move to Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer from German second-tier club FC Union Berlin.
Leistner may have been a bit of an unknown quality in English football but he was one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga II last term.
Another top signing for Middlesbrough, Paddy McNair has joined the Teesside-based club on a four-year deal from Sunderland, who were relegated from the Championship this past season.
The Northern Irishman is a versatile player capable of playing in central defence, right-back and in the midfield.
Norwich City have bagged themselves a coup by signing Felix Passlack from Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan.
Despite having struggled to make an impact while on loan at Hoffenheim last season, the 20-year-old’s arrival at Carrow Road is fantastic, to say the least.
Oghenekaro Etebo has signed a five-year contract with Stoke City, with the Potters paying a fee of €7.2million to Portuguese club Feirense.
The 22-year-old was one of the rare shining lights in Nigeria’s World Cup campaign. An energetic box-to-box midfielder, Etebo is a wonderful addition to Gary Rowett’s side.
Nottingham Forest broke their club transfer record by shelling £13.2m to sign Joao Carvalho from Benfica.
The 21-year-old played 8 games for Benfica in the 2017/18 season. The young Portuguese is expected to make an immediate impact at Forest.
Leeds United have signed Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker on a season-long loan deal.
The 23-year-old playmaker has enjoyed spells with MK Dons, Vitesse Arnhem and Middlesbrough and will hope to impress Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.
Bristol City have signed Wales forward Marley Watkins from Championship rivals Norwich City for £1m.
Watkins started only 12 Championship games for the Canaries last term. However, he will be expected to play a bigger part under Lee Johnson at Ashton Gate.

Teemu Pukki (Norwich City)
Norwich have signed Teemu Pukki on a three-year deal after the Finnish forward netted 17 goals last term in Danish Superliga for Brondby.
A clinical striker with an abundance of pace and intelligent movement, Pukki is a really solid addition for the Canaries.
Soudani has joined Nottingham Forest on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. The Algerian has been prolific during his time in Croatia, scoring 86 goals for Dinamo Zagreb.
A player with a wealth of experience in Europe, Soudani would be a key player next term for Forest.
