The Best And The Worst Rated Chelsea Players From Their 0-0 Draw Against Watford

Share

Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Watford at Vicarage road. The Hornets goalkeeper made two fine saves late on in the game to ensure the hosts picked up a point as Guus Hiddink’s side took an hour to test the Brazilian. Chelsea are now on a 10 games unbeaten run. Diego Costa risked being sent off in the first half as he was involved in a couple of scuffles with Watford defenders.

THIBAUT COURTOIS

Wasn’t troubled a lot but used his quick reflexes to prevent Watford taking a lead early on in the game. Needs to work on his distribution from the back as he doesn’t look very confident at this stage.  6/10

BRANISLAV IVANOVIC

A quiet game for the Serbian, kept the Watford wingers in check. When he got forward his crossing failed to breach the first defender and could have scored late on. Some wayward passing shows that he is still not at his best but is slowly getting there. 7/10

KURT ZOUMA

With captain John Terrry guiding the French centre-back, Zouma goes from strength to strength. Easily handled the twin threat of Deeney and Ighalo. The young defender looks the future of Chelsea’s defense. Needs to make that position his own after Terry leaves. 7/10

JOHN TERRY

All eyes were on Terry given the recent drama. Terry was struggling to contain the Nigerian’s runs and was fortunate to see Ighalo miss a huge chance after he failed to track him. However, he soon settled and gave his all to win every header and tackle until the final whistle. 6/10

CESAR AZPILICUETA

The Spaniard provided a typical hard working performance on the left with energy and discipline. Rarely caught out positionally. He was eager to get down the flank and join the attack but unfortunately couldn’t find that killer pass. 7/10

NEMANJA MATIC

Nemanja Matic has struggled all season and his erratic passing and positioning almost proved costly for Chelsea. Did do well in patches before being taken off for Hazard as the manager looked for a win. 5/10

JOHN OBI MIKEL

Mikel has been a favourite of Hiddink since his arrival however the Nigerian’s performances have begun to slip in recent weeks. After a slow start to the game he did grow into it, put in some timely blocks on set-pieces. 6/10

WILLIAN

Willian’s form has tailed off and his deliveries on set pieces and crosses were poor. He was doubt for this match with a bruised foot. The goals from free-kicks have dried hence he has to work harder on the field. 6/10

CESC FABREGAS

He once again played further forward and his incredible array of vision and passing is pivotal to the Chelsea attack.  He did have to drop deep on a number occasion to try and feed the ball to Costa and company. 6/10

OSCAR

After his superb hat-trick against MK Dons in the FA Cup match, the Brazilian was quite during the early stages of the matches before finding more joy around Watford’s box. 6/10

DIEGO COSTA

Diego Costa was unlucky to have faced a goalkeeper in a rich vein of form and saw his best chance deflect wide. The Spaniard harassed the Watford centre halves all night and was booked for shoving Paredes. He almost set up Oscar for the opening goal in the second half and was denied by a stunning save later on. 7/10
