Simon Mignolet: Liverpool
The Belgian might have had a shaky start to the season and was dropped from the team as well but he has picked himself up and leads the Premier League in clean sheets, yes he has more clean sheets than De Gea or Courtois. Mignolet has become one of the best goalkeepers in the second half of the season and deserves to be in this list if not the original one.
Cesar Azpilicueta: Chelsea
He might have been unlucky to miss out on the original team, but Azpilicueta has been just as important for the Blues as Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry. Quick and strong in defence, Cesar has been a mainstay for the Chelsea team and should have been in the first team.
Laurent Koscielny: Arsenal
It was a bit of a surprise to see Gary Cahill being in the original team, but Laurent Koscielny deserves to be in the PFA team of the year more than anyone else, he has been exceptional for Arsenal at the back and has more than made up for a slow start in his Arsenal career.Arsenal career.
Martin Skrtel: Liverpool
The leader at the back of the Liverpool defence, in a season which can be forgotten, Skrtel has stood leaps and bounds above the rest of Liverpool’s defence and has been one bright spot for them.
Leighton Baines: Everton
It shouldn’t be a surprise that Baines has been included in this list when he should have been included in the first list. Baines has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League and will be looking to finish the season with Everton and hopefully qualify for Europe.
Cesc Fabregas: Chelsea
Jose Mourinho was shocked at the exclusion of Cesc from the PFA team of the year and frankly we are as well, the Chelsea midfielder has come back to the Premier League with a bang and has provided 16 assists this season, he might have slowed down in the second half but he has done more than enough to get into the team.
Morgan Schneiderlin: Southampton
One of the best defensive midfielders out there, Schneiderlin has been linked with a move to a big club but has enjoyed a great season for Southampton under Ronal Koeman.
Santi Cazorla: Arsenal
With 7 goals and 8 assists in the bag, Cazorla has been rejuvenated this season for Arsenal as he has enjoyed a deeper role to play in games, he might not have made it to the first list but this second list isn’t a bad return for a player who seemed to be leaving the club last season.
David Silva: Manchester City
The Spanish winger has been instrumental for Manchester City over the years and this slow season still has been decent for Silva with 11 goals and 4 assists.
Olivier Giroud: Arsenal
A striker who scores goals so effortlessly, Olivier Giroud might not have been an instant hit at Arsenal, but he has won the hearts of the faithful and has scored almost every time he has played. The Frenchman has scored 14 goals in 22 appearances for the Gunners.
Sergio Aguero: Manchester City
