The 3 Worst Signings Of The Premier League This Season Featuring Manchester United And Liverpool Transfers

With the January transfer window coming to a close, many teams have tried to strengthen their squads, some teams however were wary of the threat of making a signing in haste which would not only be a waste of money but could try and destroy the balance of a team. Speaking of signings destroying balances, there are certain players who came in with a big reputation at the start of the Premier League and were expected to provide their team with a boost but they ended up flopping big time for their club. Here are the 3 biggest Premier League flop signings from the 2014 transfer window.

Mario Balotelli: Liverpool

To replace a player of Suarez’s quality you need to get a player who has ability and a hint of madness, well Liverpool certainly got the madness part right. When Balotelli was signed a few days before the window ended for £16 million from AC Milan, everyone knew it was going to be a big gamble and unfortunately for both the player and the club it has not paid off.

Balotelli has not looked like fitting into the Liverpool’s style of play and with a change in the formation which has coincided with the club being unbeaten in their last 7 Premier League games, Balotelli has spent more time out of the squad or on the bench in the 2^nd half of the season, plus with the return of Daniel Sturridge, his time at Liverpool could be coming to an end.

The Italian striker has managed just 2 goals in 18 appearances for the club in all competitions and he has not scored a goal in the Premier League, there is no doubting his talent but his application is still questionable.

Dejan Lovren: Liverpool

Many pundits believed that had Liverpool played with a better defence last season, they could have become champions. They invested big time in their squad which included buying the Croatian defender from Southampton for a fee of around £20 million but the defender has not been able to justify his price tag.

Lovren has looked woefully out of place in the Liverpool team and to be frank with him not in the squad or in the defence the team has looked much better. Lovren has in fact been replaced by Emre Can, a player who has played more often in midfield rather than in defence. If Liverpool continue their good run, it could be curtains for the Croatian defender at Anfield.

Radamel Falcao: Manchester United

When Manchester United confirmed the loan signing of Radamel Falcao even after not qualifying for the Champions League, it seemed like a major coup for the club. They were able to attract one of the best strikers in world football and it was expected that Falcao would fit nicely into the plans of Louis Van Gaal.

Or so we thought, Falcao had just returned to full fitness after recovering from a major injury and he even missed the World Cup, his performances for Manchester United have not been as brilliant as they were for Porto, Atletico Madrid or even Monaco (Before his injury). He did pick up an injury in between and was out of the team for a while and he was kept out of the squad in place of the younger striker James Wilson.

Falcao has only scored 4 goals in 16 appearances for Manchester United, while this total might still have been passable for any other player at United, Falcao is known to be a goal scoring machine, and in his time at United he seems to be El Pussycat rather than El Tigre. The only good deal? United did not buy him but only signed him on loan.
