Manchester City Player Ratings vs Liverpool: Here’s how the Cityzens fared

It was a game of two splendid defensive showings as Manchester City played out a 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield. Both sides tested each other’s resilience but were unable to find the back of the net.

Riyad Mahrez will be gutted to have missed a penalty in the dying minutes but it certainly proved to be an enticing stalemate at Merseyside. Liverpool’s attack failed to click in many moments and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a refreshing period now that the international break has arrived.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson (6/10)

Was mostly untested and made a few routine saves. The Brazilian otherwise endured a largely quiet game.

Kyle Walker (7/10)

Walker was defensively superb on the night and ensured he kept Salah at bay.

Kyle Walker

John Stones (8/10)

Looked comfortable at the back and played a simple game. He won a couple of crucial headers as well.

Aymeric Laporte (7/10)

A neat and tidy game from Laporte, who kept Firmimo quiet for most of the game.

Benjamin Mendy (6/10)

Was unable to supply much going forward and picked up a yellow card due to a few sloppy tackles.

Bernardo Silva (6/10)

The former Monaco midfielder picked his passes well in the middle of the park but he was unable to influence much going forward.

Bernardo Silva

Fernandinho (5/10)

The Brazilian was very poor with his defending and lunged into many players dangerously, which resulted in him picking up a yellow card. He was lucky not to see a red.

Riyad Mahrez (6/10)

He tested Alisson a couple of times but was utterly poor with his penalty. The Algerian blasted his spot-kick right into the skies!

David Silva (6/10)

Silva created a couple of chances and his quick passing in the midfield was fruitful for the champions. However, he was unable to pull the strings in the final third.

Raheem Sterling (5/10)

The crowd did its best to ruin Sterling’s day and did a decent job at that. He barely threatened going forward.

Raheem Sterling

Sergio Aguero (6/10)

There’s just something about Anfield that Aguero just can’t seem to digest. He has always cut a frustrated figure after a game at Merseyside.

Substitutes

Gabriel Jesus (5/10)

Committed a couple of cynical fouls and failed to make an impact after coming on.

Leroy Sane (7/10)

His pace on the ball caused all sorts of problems for Liverpool. Sane also won the penalty which was wasted by Mahrez.
