Ever since the thumping of Manchester City about 3 weeks ago, this Tottenham side has taken a sort of slump in their performance. 3 games have been played in all competitions and they have not won any of it, but they haven’t lost a game in the Premier League. But this Sunday is the perfect opportunity to change this slump in form and get back to winning ways and climbing up the table. They face a Bournemouth team which has proven to be a surprise this season in the PL but, unfortunately, may not be in full strength when the Londoners pay them a visit on Sunday.
Hugo Lloris will lead the line up once again and after letting in 2 goals which he could not have done much about, the Frenchman would want to get a clean sheet and Spurs fans and manager will hope he does keep one and get the side back to winning ways.
In defence, Trippier had a terrible night against Anderlecht in Belgium and is for sure to be replaced by Kyle Walker. Ben Davies was quite ordinary too, and mostly will be replaced by Danny Rose who had quite a good return game v Liverpool. Unless he fails fitness tests, the English international will be in the 11 instead of the Welsh full back. The Belgian duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have forged quite a chemistry and even though Thursday night wasn’t their best performance in a Spurs shirt, Sunday needs to be different and back to the solidity that has made the Spurs defence one of the most solid and tightest in the League.
In Central Midfield, Eric Dier and Dembele started in the Europa League fixture and Delle Alli was given a rest in midweek. Though the youngster has been in terrific form and has even got an England call up already with just 10 PL games under his belt, he has been quite a capture for this Tottenham side as he fits perfectly into the Poch system. Mason also has come back from the sidelines and will be hoping to get involved in this game but is not likely to start. It would be fair to have Delle Alli and Eric Dier do their thing in central midfield while Dembele plays right behind the striker. When needed, Dembele and Alli can rotate themselves on the pitch. On the flanks, we will have Erik Lamela and with both Chadli and Son not completely fit, Eriksen will be on the left. Townsend could have been an option, but the English international did very little on the Europa game to prove he needs to start.
Kane may not have scored many goals this season, in fact only 1 in the Premier League. It came against Manchester City and everyone would hope he gets his scoring touch soon and gets back to the goal scoring form that garnered him so much attention last season. Tottenham need this win, more than anything right now. They have worked on not losing to the big names so far this season and they have to win the smaller games to get to the top 4 level.
