Strongest Manchester United Line Up To Play Against Liverpool – Fellaini, Januzaj And Jones Should Start

Share

Manchester United take on perennial rivals Liverpool in what is going to be a thrilling encounter at Old Trafford this Sunday. David Moyes’ men know anything less than a win against the Reds will spell doom for the Red Devils and will all but end their hopes of a top four finish. United come into this encounter having picked up a morale boosting 3-0 won over West Brom at the Hawthorns but they are currently sixth on the table and eleven points behind the second placed Reds.

Will the Reds Devils take revenge of their 0-1 reversal earlier in the season at Anfield and what will be their strongest lineup on the pitch? We here at Soccersouls have the answer for our readers.

Goalkeeper:

Spaniard David de Gea faces his toughest test in recent weeks against a side who have scored the most goals in the league so far and are looking relentless in their quest of a Champions League berth. The United shot stopper needs to have a superb outing on the pitch, lest the likes of the Liverpool attacking armour will make a meal of United’s shaggy defence.

Defenders:

This is probably the first time in years that Liverpool head to Old Trafford as the favourites. The reason for that in the SAS partnership of Suarez and Sturridge who will be a constant headache to the United back four.

Rafael will start at right back while Patrice Evra has a game on his hands lining up against the likes of Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge who will swap places during the entire course of the match. Make no mistake the young Englishman will give the old legs of the French defender quite a torture.

Although Jones and Smalling sounds as the best possible pair that Moyes could line-up, it is upto the manager to decide. Nemanja Vidic can be in contention for a starting berth as his experience could help the Red Devils when they come up against the SAS.

Midfield:

Micheal Carrick has to be the pivot for United in the middle of the park holding the reins together with his passing range. If I was David Moyes, I would play Fellaini alongside Carrick to act as the destroyer, breaking down Liverpool’s attacks and keeping a firm eye on Suarez.

Of course Juan Mata will again start wide right, gradually coming into the middle to link up front. Adnan Januzaj will relish the opportunity to take John Flanagan, trying to make space for the wingback’s overlapping forays.

Strikeforce:

Amidst all the rumours of Robin Van Persie leaving in the summer, the Dutchman needs to squash claims of all those rumours by answering the doubters on the pitch. Wayne Rooney will also start but with all possibility drop a bit deep, playing just off Van Persie in the pockets of space to drag the Liverpool defenders out of position.
