Strongest Liverpool Line Up To Play Against Manchester United – Sterling And SAS To Wreck Havoc?

Share

Arguably the most anticipated clash of any Premier League season and for the first time in many seasons, Liverpool have the upper hand going into the fixture over their fierce rivals. The Reds are currently second to Chelsea in the League table while David Moyes’ men, thanks to their 3-0 win over West Brom last weekend are sixth on the table. However, the Red Devils are still eleven points behind Liverpool a gap which looks highly unlikely to be covered.

Can Brendan Rodgers’ side continue their juggernaut and hurl further ignominy to their greatest rivals? In doing so, what would be the strongest lineup for the Reds? We here at Soccersouls have the answer.

Goalkeeper:

Simon Mignolet faces his toughest match in quite some time but comes into the match on the back of a creditable clean sheet against Southampton. The likes of Rooney and Van Persie will cause enough trouble for the Belgian and his distribution and collection of the ball from crosses will be key to Liverpool’s performance in the match.

Defenders:

Jon Flanagan should be playing in the right back slot and would enjoy his individual duel against the likes of Adnan Januzaj or Ashley Young on the flanks. Glen Johnson however will have a match on his hands playing out of position at left back and also in direct opposition with Juan Mata on the left. It will also be how Liverpool’s fragile defense play as a whole and Daniel Agger should start alongside Martin Skrtel even if the Frenchman Mamadou Sakho is back to full training after recuperating from his spell on the sidelines.

Midfield:

Lucas Leica has given a major boost to Liverpool’s midfield as the Brazilian returned to full training and played for the Reds U21s in a 2-0 win over West Ham United. However, it will be difficult for the midfielder to find a place in the starting XI. Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson in the middle would be the best option for Rodgers as the Liverpool captain will try to dictate the tempo on the counter with his sublime vision while Henderson will be making his late runs into the box. Liverpool’s man of the moment Raheem Sterling will also start with Philippe Coutinho on either flanks and the duo will be using their pace to get in behind the United back four.

Strikeforce:

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge will try to wreak havoc in the United back four with their relentless pressing and movements off the ball followed by quick exchanges in the middle.
