Strongest Liverpool Line Up To Play Against Cardiff: Unchanged Side From The United Game?

Share

After a majestic 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, Liverpool now travel to take on Welsh side Cardiff City in order to continue their charge for the Premier League Title. Brendan Rodgers’ side currently stand second in the table being unbeaten in 2014 and going by recent results, the encounter is sure to be a formality for the Reds.

Cardiff City meanwhile languish in nineteenth place and as relegation looks imminent, can Ole Gunnar Soljasker’s side do the unthinkable of getting a win over the Merseysiders? Liverpool are fully aware that they can ill afford to drop points for their quest of the title, so what would be Liverpool’s strongest lineup going into Saturday’s match?

Goalkeeper:

Simon Mignolet will be looking to grab a second successive clean sheet after being highly untested at Old Trafford. The Belgian though will have to be wary of Fraizer Campbell and the Cardiff frontline who gave Everton quite a stern test at Goodison Park last weekend. Should Mingolet be confident of holding on to crosses from the flanks, the Liverpool number one can boast of yet another shutout.

Defenders:

While Jon Flanagan should start on the right wing back slot, Glen Johnson will man the other flank for the Reds. Both the wingbacks were in complete control against United last weekend, they would try to go forward, join in attacks and try to keep a clean sheet too for their team. While Mamadou Sakho is back to full fitness, Brendan Rodgers should still persist with the reliable defensive partnership of Skrtel and Agger at the heart of Liverpool’s back line.

Midfield:

The midfield too looks like to be running as a well oiled machine as Steven Gerrard, who scored from two penalties against United, now plays deeper aiding his defense, orchestrating the tempo and build up from a quarterback role. While Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen look to be ever energetic, Raheem Sterling is keeping out Brazilian Phillipe Coutinho, playing at the top of the diamond.

Strikeforce:

The SAS partnership of Suarez and Sturridge are sending down shivers on the opposition in the Premier League and Saturday would be no exception to their imperious finishing and lethal attacking verve up front. The Cardiff defense might just be blown away to tatters as both the strikers would require some stopping in current form. While Suarez leads both the goal scoring and assists charts, Sturridge rarely misses an opportunity to score every time he takes the field.
