After two weeks filled with 32 matches eight clubs came out successfully through the round of 16 in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. As the last teams battled this week and all the aggregated score winners appeared, the European association released the list of drawn games for the quarterfinals starting in April.
Starting on April 1 in the UCL Barcelona will host Atletico Madrid as Lionel Messi remain after the all-time scorer title, which belongs to Raúl, former Real Madrid striker. Atlético not only are yet to lose a game, they run the toughest defense with only five goals allowed thus far. Also on the first day of the quarters, defending champions, Bayern Munich, will pay a visit to Manchester United, who have Wayne Rooney with the most assists this year in the international tournament.
On the very next day, Paris Saint-Germain of second top scorer at the moment, Zlatan Ibrahimovic with 10 nets, will challenge the one-time winner Chelsea at Parc des Princes. And Real Madrid will really have to work their way around to keep up as a scoring machine once they host the club awarded for most committed fouls and awarded yellow cards remaining in the UCL, Borussia Dortmund.
Kicking off on April 3 the Europa League fans will see the undefeated Dutch side AZ Alkmaar taking on the Portuguese SL Benfica at AFAS Stadion. Meanwhile, Lyon and Juventus will battle for their time in an UEFA competition. The Italians will have an extra boost, that is playing the final Europa League game at home, since Turin will host the last match of the season.
Swiss side Basel will first play hosts to the Spanish Valencia, which have the third best offense in EL with 18 goals after 10 games. Then both two-time winners Porto and Sevilla will being their battle at Estádio do Dragão.
Come a week later (April, 8, 9 and 10) the visitors on week one play at home to decide who will advance into the semifinals.
On Friday April 11 UEFA will reveal the destiny of the final four clubs at both the Champions League and the Europa League, with the matches kicking off on April 24.
