Steven Gerrard’s Carrer In Numbers – The Player To Score The Most No. Of Goals At Old Trafford

Share

The legendary Steven Gerrard pulled down the curtain on a spectacular and glorious 18-year professional career a couple of days ago just after finishing the MLS Season with LA Galaxy, and to say we have come to the end of a great generation on the pitch of play will be stating the fact.

Gerrard never won an EPL title in all his years at Anfield, but he won the hearts of many Liverpool and non Liverpool fans alike. When the Chelsea faithful and Jose Mourinho applaud you with a standing ovation at the Stamford Bridge, you needn’t win the most coveted title in the land to prove any point again.

The 36-year-old actually hung up the boots at the end of the 2014-15 Premier League season. The 2 following years spent at LA Galaxy are nothing but the yearnings of a man whose passion, undying love and dedication for and to the game are incomparable.

Ever since making his first appearance in the Reds Jersey on November 29 of 1998 against Blackburn Rovers in a Premier League match, Gerrard not only went on to fulfil his dreams and achieve greatness for the Merseyside club, he left his footprints on the sands of time, and his name will remain forever etched on many a memory.

He isn’t just widely regarded by all as a special and rare breed when Liverpool’s greatest players are talked about, Gerrard remains one out of the few England’s national team standout icons of all times, and none will ever be like him. For both the Three Lions and the Anfield outfit.

No one can ever shower enough praises on Gerrard, or have the best and most suitable choice of words to describe the endless list of all the achievements, including record-breakers and record-setters of this one-in-a-life-time star. Nevertheless, it won’t hurt to try.

England’s fourth-most capped player racked up 114 appearances with 21 goals, and upon his retirement from international football in 2014, 14 years after his debut, his successor in the leadership role at Liverpool Jordan Henderson, described him as “probably the best player this country has ever seen – not only as a player, but also as a leader and a captain.” Not farther from the truth.

While he won nothing with England, he won it all, bar the EPL with Liverpool. The 3rd player in Liverpool’s all-time appearance list scooped 2 F.A Cups, 3 Football League Cups, 1 F.A Community Shield, 1 Champions League, 1 UEFA Cup and 1 UEFA Super Cup in 710 games for Liverpool.

He scored 186 goals across all competitions, and most were very crucial and important ones. In the Premier League, he had a hand in 212 of Liverpool’s goals between 1998 and 2015 with 120 goals and 92 assists.

He is the only player in history to have scored in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and UEFA Cup finals. No player from any opposition club has scored more Premier League goals at the Old Trafford than Gerrard.

His never say die attitude made him famous for inspiring comebacks and netting late winners. In the Premier League, none has scored more match-winning goals (4) in the 90th minute or later than Steven Gerrard.

Per adventure, he would have won the league for Liverpool if not for that infamous slip against Chelsea in the third last match of the 2013-14 season, as his 13 assists – more than any other topflight player looked bound to help the Reds break the jinx.

This Liverpool great might have retired from the beautiful game, but when he makes a return in the not too distant future on the touchline, his legacy will continue, as this story is too glorious to finish this early.
