Solving The Left-back Conundrum: 3 Players Liverpool Should Target

Share

Liverpool initial struggle last season led to Brendan Rodgers being sacked, which brought in Jurgen Klopp to Anfield. The German was arguably the best signing Liverpool made last year. Klopp led the team to cup finals, however, he couldn’t cross that final hurdle as his team copulated in the final. The Europe League final summed up their season perfectly, brilliant in the first half and a total disaster in the second. The former Borussia Dortmund manager has been quick to bring in the necessary reinforcements this summer, although there are still a few players that might arrive in the coming few weeks.

One of those will be left-back, with Alberto Moreno struggling to find any sort of consistency due to lapses in concentration  and Jose Enrique finally being shown the door and Brad Smith lacking Premier Leauge quality. It is important that Klopp signs an established left-back this summer, otherwise, the team could struggle against top wingers in the League. The arrival of the top managers like Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola, and Jose Mourinho has increased the competitiveness of the league and it is imperative that the German manager works hard to get his team ready and firing before the season kicks off on August 13th.  Here are the 3 left-backs that Klopp can target in the coming weeks.

Ricardo Rodriguez

Rodriguez is a quality left back, who will bring a lot of solidity to the Liverpool back-line. It is surprising that none of the big clubs are clamouring for his signature, given how crucial he has been at VfL Wolfsburg. He was excellent in the recently concluded European Championship for Switzerland and is on the look-out for a new club following four successful years in Germany. The 23-year-old possesses a strong and muscular physique and is known for his tireless work on the field and therefore will be hugely effective in Klopp’s high pressing style.

Aaron Cresswell

Although not a world class name, Cresswell enjoyed an excellent season at West Ham last season, which made him an outsider for a place in Hodgson’s 23 man squad for the European Championship. A boyhood Liverpool fan, Cresswell will not be hesitant in making a move, if the right offer comes in. With lots of Premier League experience and an abundance of talent, Cresswell could be the perfect solution to Liverpool’s left back problems.

Jordan Amavi

With Aston Villa relegated to the Championship, many players are looking to move to the Premier League and Liverpool will be a perfect destination for 22-year-old Amavi. He is highly regarded by Klopp and did well for the Villa last season before he suffered a season-ending cruciate ligament injury. He is an attacking left-back and also very capable of defending. Given his young age, Klopp will see him as a perfect player to mould for the future.
