Celtic seem to be bringing in fresh recruits for their forward line after a bit of a clear out by new manager Brendan Rodgers. The former Liverpool manager let go of a number of stars in the front line and the Hoops do need someone to partner or even replace Leigh Griffiths at the club and that player could well be Fulham’s rising star Moussa Dembele.
Not to be confused with the Tottenham midfielder, Mousa Dembele, this player signed from French club PSG and has been one of the best players for Fulham and even in the Championship. The 19-year-old scored 17 goals last season for the London club and could be looking to make a big move to a club in a top division.
The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool, Tottenham and a host of other clubs but the one thing that the French U20 striker would be contemplating is a move to a team that is going to provide him with Champions League football.
Fulham had almost sold the youngster to Tottenham in the last transfer window only for it to collapse due to the fact that Tottenham did not want to loan the talented striker back to the Championship side.
Celtic are still one of the biggest British clubs and the one thing that could swing the deal in their favour is the fact that the striker would be given a lot of chances to play for the Scottish side. There would not be as many eyes on him as it would be in the Premier League and maybe that would be a good thing for him in his growth.
Brendan Rodgers also has a history of doing extremely well with youngsters and bringing in Dembele would certainly be a coup for the Scottish side. Celtic do have a great history and the fact that they could be playing in the Champions League would certainly be on the mind of Dembele, if the Hoops do lodge a bid for him.
Dembele for his part, would be looking at the clubs who are linked with him and would only want to play for the side that can guarantee him top quality football on a regular basis and for now, from all the teams listed, it does seem that the Glasgow club is best placed to offer him just that.
Even his Fulham strike partner Ross McCormack believes that Dembele would be a great fit at Celtic as he spoke to the Daily Mail.
“I have to be honest and say that I would be surprised if he goes to Celtic when you think he was close to joining Spurs in January,” admitted McCormack.
“But Celtic are a massive club and if you’re going to sign for anyone in Scotland, it’s either there or Rangers.”
If Celtic can snap up the striker it would just prove that they are willing to fight it out with some of the other big teams in Europe and would also show their plan for the future.
