Should Tottenham Trigger The £11m Release Clause For This Argentine Forward

Tottenham were left frustrated last season, as the good work done in the first of the campaign resulted in nothing, as a late collapse not to pushed them out of the title race but saw them finish below Arsenal again. The disastrous run at the end of the season that saw Tottenham not winning any of their last four matches was mostly blamed on Spurs not having good enough back up players to compete with the first team players or substitute for them in the same vein when they  were injured. The biggest worry for Mauricio Pochettino will be the striking department, which is severely lacking in a world class striker that can cover for Harry Kane.

The English forward showed signs of fatigue during England’s Euro 2016 matches. He looked lost and tired, something which would have been surely noticed by Daniel Levy and Pochettino. With only one out-and-out center-forward on Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, it’s not surprising that Tottenham will seemingly be linked to an abundance of strikers until the end of the summer transfer window.

Spurs have been recently linked with a move for River Plate striker Lucas Alario. He joined River from Colon in 2015, and has hit six goals in 13 games this season, continuing to establish himself as one of the top young strikers in Argentina. Alario was linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this year, but at the end nothing worked out due to the involvement of a third party.

He scored 11 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions; it’s clear from his stats that he has a knack for goals. However the thing that strikes out about him, is his ability to get important goals. He is only 5’10”, therefore it will be a challenge getting used to the physicality of the Premier League, similar to problems faced by most of the foreign imports in England.

However he gets away with his slight frame due to his superb reading of the game and intelligent play. He is not only lethal in front of the goal but his 5 assists also show that he has always proved willing to find a teammate when unable to do things on his own. There will obviously be period of adaptation for the 23 year old player but he must not lose his confidence, if things don’t start working out for him from the start.

Few players have impressed having directly moved from South America to the Premier League, but if Spurs do sign Alario this summer, they will hope that he can buck the trend and Pochettino has proven to be an excellent guide for young players, something Alario will look forward to.
