Alex Teixeira
One of the biggest signings for the Chinese Super League seems to have run its course as after just a few months in the Orient, Alex Teixeira is set to leave his club Jiangsu Suning. The 26-year-old had actually been in the radar for Liverpool and had even stated that he wanted to leave his former club but the two clubs could not finalize a deal for the Brazilian.
Now it seems that Teixeira is unhappy and hasn’t had the greatest time in China and is willing to move away and Jiangsu Suning is willing to let him go out on loan at least. Inter Milan are rumoured to be in the running to sign him but with a cut-price option and his availability, should the Reds go after him?
Teixeira was one of the hottest properties in European football and even though he was playing for Shakhtar Donetsk, he was scoring goals left, right and centre. Liverpool weren’t willing to stump up £38 million for the attacking midfielder and it was the Chinese Super League club that swooped in for him.
Liverpool do need someone who can take care of the goal scoring duties and that could very well be Teixeira. The 26-year-old might have had a poor first season so far in China but that does not mean he is a poor player. The fact is that he moved to a country where he would never fit it, even though there are a number of Brazilians in the rising league.
The Reds don’t really have a midfielder who can score goals regularly apart from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. The big question is how would Liverpool fit Teixeira into their system, especially because of the sheer number of attacking midfielders at the club.
Another issue would be giving him regular playing time. The Reds are not going to participate in any European games and that could be the deal clincher in not bringing the Brazilian to the club. Even Teixeira might want to be guaranteed regular playing time as he looks to get back to his goal scoring ways and with Jurgen Klopp actually bringing in more signings from German football, it does seem a bit far fetched to bring Alex to the club.
The Brazilian did shoot himself in the foot when he went to China and now with him not succeeding, he might actually have to take any of the clubs that do come his way and hopefully resurrect his career next season.
