Champions of England, Chelsea have intensified the chase for potential Arsenal target Faouzi Ghoulam, as per reports. The 24-year-old superstar was being linked with a move to the Emirates, after there were recent rumours stating that Spanish defender Nacho Monreal could be set to join Athletic Bilbao this summer.
However, with the Gunners’ left-back not leaving the club at the moment, the Metro stated that the west London side are now keen on beating their Premier League rivals to sign the defender from Serie A outfit Napoli.
The Blues are looking to add more high-quality defensive options to their current squad, with Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri stating that it will be tough to keep hold of the Algerian international.
In a recent interview, he said, “We are going to really struggle if Ghoulam leaves now. I have no replacement for him, especially as Strinic is yet to recover from injury.”
“We need his services as we don’t have enough backup solutions. Ghoulam has a huge potential, he has plenty of room for improvement, especially defensively. I will be very disappointed if he leaves us.”
Now, it would be quite interesting to see which of the two London clubs can sign their summer target, as they get set to battle it out for the Community Shield on Sunday.
