The holy grail for most Premier League clubs is just to survive and be there in the league for as long as possible, Stoke City is one great example of how to slowly develop a club and ensure they stay in the Premier League for as long as possible. The Potters aren’t the only ones who have plans to stay in the Premier League as a fixture, many clubs actually have higher ambitions than just surviving.

Every year we have a race for the top 4 and most of the years it is one of the big clubs that makes it to the European dream of playing in the Champions League. Last season we saw a return to the Champions League or at least the qualifying stage for Manchester United, while Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea made it through to the group stages due to their finish in the top 3 positions. We look at the dark horses for a top 4 place, should one of these clubs slip up.

1. Liverpool

Well, they had to be in the list, after spending a ton of money on bringing in Ings, Gomez, Firmino, Milner, Benteke and Clyne amongst others, anything less than a top 4 finish for Liverpool would be disaster for their manager Brendan Rodgers. No Gerrard this season as well for the Reds and after the sale of Raheem Sterling to Premier League rivals Manchester City, could the Reds get back to the top 4 with a revamped squad, yet again?
