According to a report from The Sun, Sheffield United have joined Aston Villa in the race for Coventry City midfielder Tom Bayliss.
Tom Bayliss, 20, who has come up through the Coventry ranks, established himself as a first-team regular for the club under Mark Robins and featured in 41 games across all competitions last term.
Despite being just 20 years old, he has now racked up more than 70 first-team appearances for the Sky Blues, notching nine goals and seven assists in the process.
West Brom are also believed to be interested in the young midfielder, but the lure of Premier League may be too big for the Coventry City starlet to turn down. With that in mind, Sheffield United must beat Aston Villa to Tom Bayliss’ signature this summer.
The Blades need reinforcements after a slow start to the summer transfer window, with Chris Wilder so far managing to sign Luke Freeman and Phil Jagielka. With less than a month left for the summer transfer window to slam shut, the Yorkshire-based club must accelerate their transfer plans to achieve their summer targets.
John Fleck and Oliver Norwood formed a strong partnership in the middle of the park last season in the Championship and Wilder is expected to go with the same pair in the top-flight.
While they both are capable of doing a decent job, what United lack is squad depth in every single department. Hence, it is important for Wilder to make sure he has a big enough squad to compete with the big boys.
Bolstering the options in midfield is vital and the Blades would do a good job by adding Tom Bayliss to their ranks.

At the age of just 20, Bayliss has been putting in some exciting performances for Coventry City, attracting the attention of a number of clubs from up the Football League ladder. He can play as a central midfielder, in the no.10 role or as a wide player and such kind of versatility would be a bonus for the Blades.
That Bayliss has managed to play that much despite his tender years is a huge testament to his potential and talents.
Bayliss is one for the future and he might be used sporadically by Wilder in his debut season if he joins Sheffield United. He is highly rated and could develop into a quality player under Wilder’s watchful eyes.
