Scouting for Roman Abramovic: 3 Possible Replacements for Jose Mourinho at Chelsea

Share

What was supposed to be a dynasty for Jose Mourinho in London has turned into a nightmare, Chelsea were beaten, comprehensively at home by Southampton and the major talking point wasn’t the performance of the Blues but the post-match rant by the manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese almost dared the Chelsea board to sack him but stated that he will not walk away, after all he is the best manager the club has ever had, those were his words. Chelsea have had a horrible start to the season and lie just four points above the relegation zone. The Champions of England are 10 points behind Manchester City and Mourinho has all but given up hope of the Blues retaining the title, stating that a top four finish is still possible.

With their progression in the Champions League, not a certainty, any more losses could result in Mourinho getting the sack from Roman Abramovich. While there aren’t many managers who could step up to take over the reins at Chelsea, we look at three managers that would be a good fit for the Blues.

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp

Almost every top club would want to have the charismatic German at the club, Klopp might have left Dortmund after a poor start to their last season, but he ensured they qualified for the Europa League even after being at the bottom of the Bundesliga table in the early stages.

The German could turn a club around thanks to his man management and pressing footballing style though working under someone like Roman might be a bit of a tough task. Klopp would put a few Chelsea players through the ringer and could ensure they have a decent finish to the season and build a foundation for next year.

Walter Mazzarri

Walter Mazzarri

The former Inter Milan and Napoli manager hasn’t been managing a club since November 2014, but he was one of the brightest coaches in the Serie A before his last job at Inter Milan. Mazzarri might not be the manager who brings a lot of attacking flair to a club, but he can ensure that they can defend, something that Chelsea can’t seem to do.

Mazzarri might be a dark horse for the post that is if Mourinho does get the sack and he might not be the most high-profile manager out there either but he steady the sinking ship that is Chelsea.

Lucien Favre

Lucien Favre

A miracle worker at Monchengladbach, Favre took the relatively modest club into the Champions League this season but the start of the season saw they hit rock bottom and he decided to leave the club, despite the club backing him and stating that he was the best choice for them.

The fact that he worked wonders for the club although he didn’t have the greatest budget shouldn’t be seen as a negative for Chelsea. He has one of the best records in the Bundesliga, in his time with Monchengladbach and could be a good fit for Chelsea, at least till the end of the season.
