Scouting Report: Felipe Anderson

Felipe Anderson has been hitting the high notes ever since he started playing for Lazio in Serie A, nicknamed “O rato de Roma”, Brazilian has been one of Lazio’s best players in the last couple of seasons and that means he is being scouted by some of the biggest clubs in England. Manchester United and Liverpool have been tracking the 22-year-old Brazilian and seem set to start a bidding war for the attacking midfielder but who is this rising talent in the Serie A?

Santos to Lazio

It was in 2007 when he joined Santos in their youth system after trying out and spending time in various other institutions. He made his debut for the club at the age of 17. He made a few sporadic appearances before becoming a mainstay for the club in the 2012 season. Lazio then stepped up their chase to secure the signature of the attacking midfielder.

The club signed him in 2013 in a five-year deal but he carried an injury while signing for the club and that limited his appearances, he then couldn’t cope with the language and new country and rarely made a lot of appearances for the club that season. Following an injury to Candreva, he started to get a few games under his belt and was really impressive in the latter half of the season.

Style of play

Anderson is one of the fastest players in the Serie A and has great dribbling ability, he does play in an attacking midfielder’s role but he can play on either side of the team as he is two-footed and loves to run at defenders and take them on.

His greatest asset is his speed but he is great with the ball at his feet and is perfect for the Premier League since he is known for his great work rate and loves to help his team by attempting tackles in the top end of the pitch. His heading game isn’t the best since he is short and he doesn’t run behind defences but wants the ball played to his feet.

He isn’t the greatest crosser of the ball either and his passing range isn’t large, instead he wants the ball at his feet and his running at defences causes more problems which is his strength. He doesn’t score many goals, but he has a decent shot in him and he is technically very good so he should be scoring more goals in the future.

He still needs to work on a few of his abilities, but he is rising up the ladder of Italian football and could be moving pretty soon to the Premier League if the rumour mills are to be believed.
