A Revenge For Figo? Should Barcelona Go For This Real Madrid Dribbler In The Summer Window?

Share

While the Blaugrana remain one of the topmost football sides in the world, their struggles in getting quality additions to their squad are one of their weaknesses.

Replacing a host of their big players has been a daunting task of recent, and it seems the Camp Nou outfit will go any length to land quality signings after underwhelming in that regard of late.

It is why Barcelona have been linked with the signature of Real Madrid’s Isco, and it seems they are willing to put bitter rivalry and bad blood as far as transfers between both teams go aside just to retain their status as one of the best football playing sides, and most importantly continue their dominance both domestically and continentally.

Landing the Barcelona-quality type of players looks way too herculean these days, with additions like Turan, Paco, Gomes and even Rakitic all looking below par considering how none of them has been able to bring any sort of consistency to their brilliance on the pitch over large periods since their arrivals, with the latter only able to produce consistent top quality football in just his debut season.

So when a player like Isco is being linked with an actual Barcelona move, it’s understandable why the club would be tempted to go all the way regardless of his Los Blancos’ ties. The current Barcelona manager is perhaps the last player to have crossed that divide, arriving from the capital club to Camp Nou over 2 decades ago.

Putting enmity, rivalry and a potential fans’ initial disappointment aside for a minute, signing Isco would actually be a noteworthy transfer business for the Catalan giants on so many fronts.

They have failed to replace Xavi, and as their once-feared midfield continues to dip in general form, not finding a perfect player to fit into Iniesta’s shoes once he calls it quit could be the last straw.

Isco is one of the few midfielders that comes close in quality to the 32-year-old maestro. Despite primarily being an attacking midfielder, the former Malaga player brings a lot of Iniesta-esque creativity to the table.

A good dribbler who is able to evade a couple of players at a go before threading a killer pass to a forward, Isco’s technical abilities are as mesmerizing as they come. Not many players can be that confident when it comes to holding the ball and making the round-leather object do their bidding like the 24-year-old.

Having him pulling the strings on the left of Barcelona midfield alongside Busquets would be a classical footballing sight to behold, and unlike Iniesta, he can play further up the pitch as a winger due to his pace and finishing abilities. Isco is class personified and would definitely make a fine addition to a type of squad like Barcelona’s.

Peradventure, an unlikely transfer works out and he ever gets to don the stripes of the Camp Nou outfit, the club can be rest assured of having one of the Spain’s best youngsters live up to the billing and play his best football lining up for them.

Iniesta apart, Isco can stand toe to toe alongside any midfielder within the club’s current ranks, and he sure would be a very worthy signing if acquired. Even a lot of Barcelona fans would secretly wish such deal is struck as their fears over the club’s creative dearth in the middle will be allayed with it.
