A Revamped Midfield: Predicted Barcelona Line-Up to Face Deportivo La Coruna

Share

After thrashing French giants Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night, Barcelona will now travel to the Riazor Stadium as they gear up to face Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga on Sunday.

Trailing 4-0 against the Les Parisiens from the first leg, the Catalans produced one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the game ever, to overturn the deficit and progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Now, they will turn their focus on La Liga, to keep the pressure up on Real Madrid in their quest for the title.

Barcelona have been in hot form in the league as well. They won their last two encounters against Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo, scoring eleven goals in the two games while conceding just one. The last time these two sides met, the Blaugrana thumped their opponents 4-0 and a similar result could be on the cards.

Enrique has his entire squad available for selection, except Aleix Vidal who has been ruled out for the season. Jeremy Mathieu, who is still recovering from an ankle problem, will not be available.

Expected Barcelona Line-Up

Formation: 4-3-3

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (GK)

The German has been brilliant this season and will continue to feature in between the sticks for the Blaugrana on Sunday evening against Deportivo.

Sergi Roberto (RB)

The hero for Barcelona against PSG should start the game at right-back with a switch in formation looking like a seeming possibility.

Gerard Pique (CB)

The Spanish centre-back has been a stalwart at the back for the Catalans and should be in the line-up without a question.

Javier Mascherano (CB)

Alongside Pique, it will be the influential Javier Mascherano. The Argentine will start the game ahead of Samuel Umtiti, who deserves a rest after the midweek euphoria.

Jordi Alba (LB)

At left-back, we expect Jordi Alba to return to the line-up. The Spaniard has found his involvement reduced in recent weeks with a switch in tactics for Barcelona. But should start on Sunday.

Andre Gomes (DM)

In the defensive midfield role, Portuguese Andre Gomes might be handed a start, with Sergio Busquets heading to the bench.

Arda Turan (CM)

We expect Arda Turan to start his first game post his return from injury. Ivan Rakitic drops out for a much-needed rest.

Denis Suarez (CM)

Alongside Turan, we could see Denis Suarez come into the line-up for veteran Andres Iniesta. The summer arrival scored in his last appearance against Celta Vigo.

Lionel Messi (RW)

The little magician might move to the right flank for the clash against Deportivo. He will look to continue his tremendous form in front of goal.

Luis Suarez (ST)

Luis Suarez will continue to be the focal point of the attack ahead of the much-maligned Paco Alcacer.

Neymar (LW)

On the left flank will be the inspirational Neymar. The Brazilian was nothing short of genuis in the Champions League game against PSG and will hope to carry the momentum on Sunday.
