Forget Erik Lamela: Here Are 3 Super Replacements That Tottenham Could Look To Sign Including This Real Madrid Star

Share

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have all but secured their qualification for Europe next season and the manager will know that his team needs a few additions to be able to compete with the best, going forward. Pochettino is determined to add to the attack of the squad to improve the depth and quality for the challenges up ahead next season.

The manager will be gutted with the injury to star playmaker Erik Lamela earlier this season. He is now ruled out for the rest of the season and the manager will now have to start looking for alternatives if he cannot depend on the 25-year for the next season also. Lamela is a unique player who has been effective for Spurs before his injury and Pochettino will not find it easy to replace him this summer. But here are three replacements that could effectively fit in at the White Hart Lane.

James Rodriguez (Real Madrid):

Though extensively linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool and PSG, the Colombian international is up for grabs this summer and Pochettino can lure him to the White Hart Lane with a guarantee of a regular place in the starting XI. He could be available for around £60m this summer and if Pochettino is desperate to replace Lamela, there are very few players in Europe who can do a better job. Rodriguez has been more productive in front of goal than every other player in the Spurs squad except Harry Kane and is surely an upgrade for the squad this summer.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea):

Though not as attractive an option as the Real Madrid man, Sigurdsson is one of the star players at the bottom of the PL table that could be on the move this summer. Swansea are currently close to safety and do not see like going down but if they do, Pochettino can get his hands on the versatile Iceland international this summer. He is contracted with the Welsh outfit until 2020 but is valued at just £20m this summer. He has nine goals and 11 assists to his name this season and is one of the most productive players in front of goal in the league. So Pochettino can surely make a move for him if they have to replace Lamela in the summer.

Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City):

The PFA player of the year for the previous season, Mahrez has not been consistent in recent times but still has nine goals and six assists in all competitions this season for the Foxes. The 26-year old is contracted with the King Power outfit till 2020 but Mahrez has been constantly linked with an exit and could cost Tottenham above £30m this summer. He could be up for a move in search of a bigger club and though the Foxes may stay safe in the top flight come the end of the season, Mahrez could be on the move and could be an ideal replacement for Erik Lamela at the White Hart Lane. His experience in the Premier League will also help Spurs in their quest next season.
