Real Madrid opinion: Should Madrid sign Almiron?

According to a report from AS, Real Madrid scouted Paraguayan midfielder Miguel Almiron during the Copa America.

The Newcastle United midfielder put a handful of impressive displays in the group stage, bagging 2 assists despite being eliminated from the competition. Now, the Los Blancos have set their eyes on Almiron as their search for midfield reinforcements continues.

Almiron – a promising midfielder

The 25-year-old entered into the spotlight when he signed for the Magpies earlier this year. Prior to Premier League switch, the Paraguayan youngster was one of the breakout stars in MLS, as he continued to show his class with Atlanta United, racking up 22 goals and 21 goals in two seasons.

The ex-Lanus player has won 6 major title honours over the course, while his individual awards count also looks staggering. In fact, Almiron was voted the Paraguayan player for the past two years and has also made it to the MLS Team of the year in both the seasons he played.

Madrid needs midfield reinforcements

The Galacticos are desperate to sign a new midfielder to give enough support for the ageing Luka Modric. Whilst players like Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen have already entered the wishlist, Almiron looks more convenient and less expensive than the aforementioned players.

The Paraguayan is yet to make his mark with the Magpies as he has only featured in 10 games with two assists. Toni Kroos, Los Blancos’ other dynamic midfielder wasn’t at his best in the recently concluded campaign either.

Dani Ceballos, Isco, Federico Valverde also found themselves as outcasts and failed to make an impression with the limited opportunities.

Almiron would be the solution Madrid have been hoping for and with his addition, they can change the fortunes of the game in the upcoming La Liga season. The Magpies star held a pass success percentage of 74%  even in the limited starts.

Despite being an attacking midfielder by trade, he can also play as a central or wide midfielder, a position he is much accustomed with, as he can make cut-ins and provide long and short through balls as well.

He is also adept at taking set pieces and also possesses great pace, which would make him a counter-attacking threat.

Verdict

The Paraguayan would fit the Los Blancos perfectly and he is of the right age too.
