With Ryan Kent on his way back to Liverpool, it looks like the Rangers need a few new additions to their squad before the next season starts. Not only that, Jermain Defoe will return to Bournemouth sooner rather than later, which will leave the Gers reeling and in need of reinforcements.
That should be manager Steven Gerrard’s top decision to make. But while it is a tough one, his connections to Liverpool will play a big part in helping him out.
Both Jamie Murphy and Daniel Candeias are heading towards retirement, while Scott Arfield has transformed into a central midfielder. That leaves just Glenn Middleton and while the 19-year-old has done well for the club in the final few days of the season, he’s just 19 years old.
It does leave the club short in the wide area and is a move that Steven Gerrard needs to make sure happens. However, while they might consider a myriad of players, one man who should make the cut is Sheyi Ojo.
Scottish news outlet Football.Scotland has reported that the Rangers are keen on a loan move for the Liverpool starlet. The 21-year-old recently returned after a season-long loan spell with Stade Reims, making 18 appearances with a large portion of them coming off the bench.
It saw his goalscoring contributions drop down and it is not what the Rangers should look at. Instead, the club should look towards his previous spells with Fulham and even Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the 21-year-old tearing things up.
With Fulham last season, Ojo finished with 22 appearances and contributed to six goals. With Wolves two seasons prior, he finished with 19 appearances and contributed to seven goals.
Those aren’t world class numbers but they’re numbers that will help Rangers do well in the near future. Combine that with his searing pace, dribbling ability and physicality, and it makes him a perfect fit for not just the Rangers but also the Premiership.
His versatility to play across the front line will be an added bonus, with Sheyi Ojo capable of playing even as a number 10.

The Rangers need reinforcements and more importantly, it has to be players who can run. Neither Daniel Candeias nor even Eros Grezda are blessed with great pace, which is exactly what Sheyi Ojo can bring to the side. His lethality in front of goal and his versatility are just added bonuses.
