According to a report in Daily Record, Scottish giants Rangers are on a trail to sign £3m-rated Croatia striker Mirko Maric, who is currently plying his trade at NK Osijek.
The Gers have scouted the player for months now and are ready to make a move in the summer window (h/t Daily Record).
Club’s director Mike Allen has personally taken a close look at the 23-year-old (h/t Daily Record), who has scored 16 goals and supplied six assists in 38 appearances in all competitions this season.
It is clear that Rangers are almost destined to finish this campaign without a trophy this season. Hence, Steven Gerrard’s men have to spend on the squad to come close to Celtic and fare better in Europe.
Here’s why signing Maric would be a step in the right direction:
Predominantly a centre-forward, Maric can also play as a support striker or as a number 10 linking up play, if required. He is pretty good in the air and is very instinctive when it comes to having a pop at goal from in and around the opposition box.
He has improved his finishing skills by two-fold this season, hence the numbers mentioned above.
Furthermore, having represented the Croatian national team, the 23-year-old possesses the international experience, which is always a plus for any player.
On the other hand, Rangers could do with a striker like him in their squad. Jermaine Defoe remains the only option up front, as Alfredo Morelos might be sold and Kyle Lafferty is out in the cold.
