Merseyside outfit Liverpool will host West Brom at Anfield on Sunday, as the two sides clash in the Premier League at the weekend. The hosts are pushing for a place up the points table and will try to keep the challenge for a top-four finish alive by winning this one. The Reds lost 2-0 last weekend on their trip to St. James’ Park against Newcastle United and will look to improve from that. New boss Jurgen Klopp has made all the difference since taking up the job at the club and will not be impressed after their goalless draw against Sion in mid-week.
It could be a close encounter with the Merseyside club losing just once in their last five games in all competitions while the away side having failed to win a single match in the same number of games.
Predicted lineup:
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper:
Simon Mignolet has played his part in Liverpool’s better days in recent times, as the Reds have now gone up the points table and with more important fixtures coming up, the Belgian international will have to be at his best once again. Klopp will be hoping that the 27-year-old goalie can perform well as they face off against the Baggies at the weekend.
Defence:
The defence will once again consist of a four-man back-line with Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne taking their positions as the left and right full-backs respectively. Further, at the center could feature Martin Skrtel along with Kolo Toure after the former Ivory Coast international was superb in mid-week. Lovren is available too and might start on the bench though Sakho and Gomez still out injured. The team managed to keep yet another clean sheet against Sion and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the league now.
Midfield:
The pairing of Emre Can and Lucas Leiva will feature in the holding midfield role for the Reds, who will be expected to protect their defence against any threats that the opposition might throw at them. Lucas will be expected to sit deep as always while Can might push forward more often to join in on the attack. In front of the duo, would feature the attacking midfield players, with Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and James Milner. Jordon Ibe is a doubt for the game, as he is ill. The Midfield talisman Philippe Coutinho’s return will be a huge boost for the Anfield side.
Attack:
Divock Origi and Christian Benteke are the only two options that the Kop boss has available to him with injuries to Ings and Sturridge. The German would surely select the former Aston Villa man to lead his side’s frontline, instead of the younger inexperienced Origi.
