Predicting The Formation that Pep Guardiola Will Use

Share

With Pep Guardiola coming over to Manchester City, there certainly are a lot of players who would be afraid of their place in the side. Not only would Guardiola be looking to bring in players that suit his playing style, there is a massive possibility that the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager would tweak the formation as well and that could lead to a lot of success for the Blue half of Manchester.

The Spanish manager is known to be a tough taskmaster and will probably ship out a few players but he has been incredible at Bayern Munich and has made a range of changes in their formation. The manager had even played a number of games without a legitimate centre back and had Xabi Alonso and Arturo Vidal or even Javi Martinez filling in at the back and playing with a range of wing-backs.

We do not think Guardiola would be that drastic as he tries to learn about his playing XI and that would mean that he would stick to his tried and tested formula that he had perfect first at Barcelona and then during his first year at Munich.

A 4-3-3 on the way for Manchester City

One thing we must remember is that Pep bought Ilkay Gundogan and the German will not be playing on the bench that is a certainty. The Borussia Dortmund star will go straight into the first team and then comes the tough decisions that need to be made in the Manchester City team.

Joe Hart and the back four are more or less decided with Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi being the first choice centre-backs and the left and right backs would be Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov. Midfield would feature Gundogan and one defensive midfield which would probably go to Fernando.

The other midfielder in the side would be either Yaya Toure or Fabian Delph, in all honesty, we don’t see Toure being a part of the Pep revolution and the younger midfielder might just be the one who stays in the starting XI, rather surprisingly.
The big questions come in the attack and in the front three.

Sergio Aguero has to be the main striker, there are no two ways about that and the other players who should be lining up alongside the Argentine would be David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. The Spaniard and the Belgian are two of the best players in the league and keeping them on the bench would be a ludicrous decision to say the least.

The likes of Wilfried Bony, Raheem Sterling and even Jesus Navas would be on the bench or even sold maybe but Guardiola does have some time to work with his stars before he decides to do something as drastic as selling them in the first transfer window.
The 4-3-3 with a playmaker such as Ilkay would be the best option for Manchester City under Pep in the first season at the club but who knows what magic he pulls off during his first season as he looks to bring back the title this season and maybe even European glory.
